I will recommend a women: Emily Noether. The greatest math / physics genius that no one ever heard of. Her works on symmetry and conservation laws have been about as influential as Einstein's Relativity. Unfortunately, she was born before the age of feminism and extremely underrated.

Yeah, going back to sawing the "hu" off of "human" and sticking a "were" in front of "man" would make a lot more sense. But that's not really how our language is for the moment so I'm gonna assume that when people are talking about men they mean some manner of person with the male gender because that's the common usage.
