The diplomat looks a bit disappointed after all his efforts to find the match. He bows and quickly mutters he will find something in the surroundings.

Winter, 307 AC

"Visitors, my lord! They, hum, they insisted to see you."

You quickly understand why your guards did not dare refusing access to the visitors.
They are so tall that, despite the massive palace entrance, the giants have to tilt.

They are two. While they are far taller than Eldunak, the giant you met earlier this year, they look more dirty and neglected, with long beard and hair, worn out clothes and crude (but massive) weaponry on their belt.

"Eastern dwarfling", starts one of them with a voice rumbling like a stone avalanche, "We sent by masters to find fugitive. Big, tall, but not tall as us. Name Eldunak. We told he fled here. Seen him?"

The guards who were present when you met Eldunak look uneasy. Fortunately, the two giants seem too focus on you to remark them.

A) Answer honestly, and tell them he is hiding somewhere in Gedur
B) Be deceptive, and tell them he traveled further east
C) Be inconspicuous, and explain you never saw him
D) Provoke them, giants from the east will never dictate their laws in Gedur!

Just because they're giants doesn't mean they can just violate our sovereignty. Not that we owe Eldunak anything, but this is our city. If these giants want our help tracking down a fugitive, they need to pay proper respect. That said, we don't gain anything by fighting a war over this.

Ideally, I'd aim for handing over Eldunak, but only in return for some sort of (minor) concession. While I would normally be okay with voting for D, on the basis that these giants don't seem likely to respond favourably, we do have pretty good diplomatic stats, so I am hesitantly going to suggest

E: "What do your masters offer in exchange for this fugitive?"

Would be kinda hard to back out of this if they don't like it, since it admits we have some information. I guess we could still hypothetically just say we sent him on to the east afterward but they'd probably be less likely to believe it.

F: I would prefer to feign concerned interest that a fugitive might be hiding in our lands, ask for what he's sought, and explain that we rule in our jurisdiction and we will look into the matter personally rather than have them bothering our people. And of course inquire after a possible reward.

My reasoning for not going that route is that we actually already know what he's 'guilty' of; fleeing his vampiric overlords. On the other hand, I suppose it's technically possible that Eldunak was lying through his teeth, that the giant 'masters' are benevolent, and Eldunak is a violent criminal of some sort. I wouldn't believe these giant goons if they claimed that, but I suppose it would provide cover if people complain about handing him over.

Ah, sure.

"He fled without authriz… agremon… approval of masters. Was a soldier. Fled his duty," hardfully chews the giant.
"Deserter," rumbles the other one in approval.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You have a painful afternoon as you try to explain the concept of jurisdiction to two giants who were not even knowing the concept of law in the first place. Nonetheless, boredom and hunger convince them letting you handle the search.

As they roam in the palace kitchens, you find a trusted captain to give your orders.

A) Do a serious hunt to find Eldunak and bring him to the palace
B) Try to find Eldunak, and warn him to leave the city
C) Do a half-hearted attempt, to convince the giants you did something

Maybe we should go find him and tell him what they told us and see how he reacts, then we can decide what to do from there.

I am pretty sure it's obvious how he'll react.

I don't really see any benefit to giving the guy up nor any reason why we would care what these giants think, but I guess C is fine. Doesn't seem much like our problem one way or the other.

You're probably right C.

You order a twenty or so guards to do a quick search in the city, way less than one should need it to find someone in the populous Gedur.

Unsurprisingly, they come back by the end of the day, without any news nor trace of Eldunak.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You claim no tracks of the Navilim has been found, and that he probably fled elsewhere since then. Surprinsingly (and maybe softened by their earlier feast), the two giants does not seems too disturbed by the news, and left the next morning, after another loud and messy banquet in the evening.

Your guard informs you a day later that a tall bearded man has been seen in the surroundings of the river's docks, who may corresponds to Eldunak's description.

Hello everyone! Summer is drawing to an end, and as you probably guessed with my increasingly erratic updates, I'm gonna call it off once again. Thank you for those who kept playing and reading, and hopefully see you next time!

I'll still be interested in this if you decide to come back to it.
