Nightwings, Blendecs, Blizzard Men, etc.
« on: June 01, 2008, 11:32:00 am »

I've been playing this game off and on since January, and for the first month or so I exclusively played Adventure Mode.  I like to think I've seen a lot of what's available.  However, I have never seen a lot of the monsters.  The three in the title are some of them, most of them seem like they'd be cool.  Are they very rare, or am I just not looking hard enough?  Are they placeholders like the wizards'n'such, and you can't find them in the game at all?  Can anyone confirm seeing or fighting any of these, maybe with an idea of how powerful they are?

On a similar note, why is it that when you travel without the world map, you never see monsters?  I once traveled across three or four world map tiles on a wrestler, and saw a grand total of one camel.

Foul blendecs appear in sinister areas as far as I know.
I've encountered them once.  Vicious creatures, they are.

These creatures appear exclusively in evil biomes. That is, haunted, sinister, otherwise evil-ated. On the world map, they appear purple or a variation thereof. Blizzard men appear in haunted blizzards, nightwings appear in haunted forests(I think) and blendecs appear most commonly in haunted swamps.

Like most haunted creatures, they're stronger than the average creature. Can't say I've particularly fought one, but generally skeletal and zombie creatures are more worrisome in evil areas.

Nightwings are desert-dwellers.  In fact, they are the predominant reason why you do not settle in a haunted desert.  Damn things are nasty.

Blendecs can be rather dangerous too, but if you can hack enough limbs off them before they can start attacking then you're good.  I had a pocket world with a little section of haunted forest, and it seemed like every other square I'd run into another group of the damned things.

I was wondering about those. I see more semi-megabeasts than I do Blendecs, actually.

I've been swarmed by blendecs a couple of times, but usually you can kill them pretty easily.  In fact, they're probably only a little harder than a pack of wolves.

I've never seen them--the worst enemies I've encountered in haunted desert forts are skeletal camels. Hardly overwhelming, but thoroughly crippling when they wander in the front door before I've gotten my military/defenses up...

I think the most exotic enemy I encountered in adventure mode was a skeletal sasquatch.

Terrifying deserts are actualy easier to settle in the haunted. The main reason you don't see much nightwings in adventurer is because going to a desert is not a good idea anyway and when you meet them there's a big chance they are in the sky above you which is not allocated so they won't come down.

Yeah I've noticed this issue too.
One time I've added a lot of winged creatures (tried to simulate angels-demons world) and they have never appeared in random encounters for me.
Though I saw them flying over towns from time to time.

I've ran into blendecs. It's a mixed bag: sometimes i wipe them out easy, sometimes they rend me apart. Total luck of the draw and circumstances, i think.

So far as strange encounters, the worst was a skeletal polar bear on a glacier. I'd assumed i could sneak up on it and nail it. I was horribly wrong, thing ripped pieces out of me i didn't know i even *had*.

I generally don't run into odd things, for whatever reason.
