Maria was a bit irritated at first at what Lulu had said, but was willing to ignore it for the time being.

"Well I mean I wouldn't want you to think i'm a good-for-nothing, run-of-the-mill mage who exploits others for her own gain. And besides, everybody knows you should keep somebody who can get you things you value but are hard to come by close.

"Weeeeell... I always assume people are good-for-nothing exploiters out for their own gain. It's a lot safer to assume that way.~" Even more so since she may not be a typical mage, but she's definitely and exploiter out for only herself. "Ah, but keeping your supplier happy makes a lot more sense. Who knows what else I might be able to nab riiight?" Well, it certainly makes it easier to trust someone when they have some motive that's easy to understand as well.

"It helps that I share your enthusiasm for sweet treats. I just wouldn't have bought myself one in favor of, well, keeping my gold close to me so I can consider bigger purchases in the future..."

Following behind Maria, Lulu shrugs, "Meeeh... Where's there fun if you don't spend gold on yourself? Like, investments are nice and all but like... so is cake... and pie... and ice cream! Did ya know that if you have a hot apple pie it goes really well with cold vanilla ice cream?"

Eiriol turned too see the voice addressing her, hanging one a few branches as she did.

"Nope I'm just trying to pet the squirrel." she says matter of factly with a smile "Did you want to pet one too?"
Tanja stares up at Eiriol for a moment, squinting a little as her eyes glance at the branches Eiriol hung from, and the surprisingly fluffy looking squirrels..
: "I see...."
: "Well, as fluffy as they seem I probably shouldn't? I don't think I could fit up there, and uhh, wouldn't we scare it off?."

Maria thought about the idea Lulu gave her for a moment. Perhaps she should try it? Well what better time than now.

"I'll be honest with you that does sound quite tempting. I suppose It wouldn't hurt if I ask around if they can arrange for such a combination to test your thesis on the matter."

The dark mage kept walking through the camp, unable to discern where she was heading exactly to find a merchant selling sweet treats in this settlement.

Speaking of, would you be interested in assisting me on a question with a problem i've encountered in my books? I thought that maybe someone of a different school might be able to give me a better insight."

Eiriol pauses for a moment and thinks about Tanja said.

"Oh, right I'll get down so you can climb up then. Then you will fit. Just watch out bellow!!!" Eiriol says as she jumps down from the tree.

Rhian may find herself being sought out by none other than Emilia.
"Rhian. How are your wounds?"

Lulu snickers a bit at Maria's first statement, "You know you can use normal people words to say the same thing right? 'arrange for such a combination to test your thesis on the matter'? pffffft..."

"Books? Gross." She tilts her head, "I think you've got the wrong impression of me. I never attended a school, too expensive."

"Plus, I'd probably be bad for the school's reputation!~"

Rhian has found herself a pastime in the form of chopping firewood. She's just begun as Emilia arrives.
"Well enough." She cleaves a log in two as if to prove her point. "Not a delicate little flower like that Artair seems to think. Or be, for that matter."

Maria was speechless for a moment at what Lulu had said, specifically about her way of talking, before resuming her train of thoughts.

"My apologies, I had..thought that someone of your standing was a mage like myself. Perhaps it was wrong of me to assume you attended such faculties."

The dark mage thought about the current situation for a while, then again, she did indeed never ask where Lulu was from after all...

"If I may inquire such a question, where exactly are you from, if not from a prodigious line of spellcasters? You dress up as one, and I was almost certain that Sir Dunas had hired you for this exact purpose. Do not worry about this secret ever getting to him, I'll keep this between us if you do not wish for me to tell him otherwise"

"Artair."
Emilia sighs. She already had a rough idea of what was probably said.
"For someone so concerned about chivalry, perhaps she has had little opportunity to attempt practicing it on the battlefield herself."
Exasperation, rather than anger. Emilia knew more than anyone else save maybe Tanja and Rhian what trying to maintain a code of honor was like in the face of insurmountable odds. But then, she would be no Maiden Warrior if she didn't.

Not that chivalry had no room on the battlefield. Honor was what separated men from the animals. Faith was what separated the able from the dead. Kindness, the living from the merely surviving.
"We haven't had a chance to catch up for a while. What do you make of all this? What we've gone through, I mean."

"There's a lot going on. Not that it needs pointing out." She shrugs, and takes another chop. "I'm not exactly a political expert, but I can see things are starting to move. It's going to be hard to tell who's a friend going forward, I think." She sets up another log. "Unless you haven't noticed, somehow." Unlike her interactions with most, this holds little in the way of sarcastic bite. "It's not every day potential royalty and a lost Emblem show up in a room together. With things like that happening, I'm not about to stand and worry about how pretty-" she punctuates this with a third chop "-the wounds I leave in people are. Dead is dead."

"We can only rely fully on those who have proven themselves at our side in battle. It is as true for a Maiden Warrior as it is for one under her wing."
Emilia remarks in agreement.
"Politics has never been my strong suit either, though I was educated in it. That was always my brother's area. I always felt I could do more with my own two hands."

"Might be a chance to make my mark, though. If I come out standing near the top at the end of this then I can get somewhere instead of wandering around hoping for a chance to get what's mine."

"You never did tell me for what reason you were out there, Rhian."
Emilia mused, looking her companion up and down.
"I can't imagine that you were out there to make your mark for the sake of village pride, though."

"Not exactly, no." She hacked another log in half with rather more vehemence than necessary, her axe embedding itself in the stump she was cutting on for a brief moment. "I've got a grudge to settle, is all. Someone took everything from me and I'm going to get it back. But I can't do that as some random nobody."
