"Two questions. Firstly, what do you know of the upcoming feast with King Alfham?"

"Pretty much what I've told you already, and nothing more. Considering it takes time to organize a feast, I would assume the preparations shortly after the court heard of Ghal's death, but that's the realm of guesswork of course... And the second question?"

"I suppose you are right." Artair recollects herself. Kinda tempted by the sweet though.

"This isn't a conversation to continue. Mr. Almen, I would have a Steel Sword please. And maybe a cookie."

Artair turns to Rhian.

"I'm not actually a Maiden Warrior, I just owe Emilia one."

"..." That sentence pretty much derails her apology.

Emilia stopped herself. In this context, Patrice wasn't her beloved older brother.

"What? I wouldn't claim a title I don't have." I have others waiting for me.

"I had thought for a moment you were only concerned with your duty, but instead. Well, just don't end up surrounded, all right?" Honestly, it's like she doesn't even care about her own injury...

Though. Eiriol also charges in headfirst. Still not sure what herthoughts are...
... If it's not duty, why does Rhian fight so fiercely?

Alemn stands there, smiling.
"I suppose we can just agree to disagree?"

"Sure." Rhian returns her attention to the merchant. "I'll be taking that axe now, if you don't mind."

"Pardon, dear Rhian. You have such a noble aura despite your words, so I assumed... Nevermind. You are right. It is time for business! The sound of coin would surely brighten my lilies' mood~"
And so, wares exchange hands for gold.

"How well do you know Pat- no, the Count Palatine of Phaelan?"

"I have a level of respect towards him that is greater than most other ruling nobles. It cannot be easy to balance the sphere of influence of your family with the selfless mission of the Maiden Warriors that are closely tied to your name, especially as a patriarch rather than a matriarch. I've yet to have the honor of meeting him, but that is true for essentially every ruling noble that is not Dunlandic."
Dunas pauses for a short moment before scratching the back of his head.
"If you are any indication though, Lady Emilia, then I would picture him to be a person both kind and strong-willed."

Rhian shrugs, electing to gloss over the resurgence of earlier suspicions.
"Maybe I'll decide to go become one properly at some point, but there's not much of a reason to do so now."

"You flatter me, Lord Dunas. But....given your presence, I would have thought you more well-traveled."

"Oh, not at all, Lady Emilia... If anything, I can consider myself blessed that I would ever be outside Dunland, even if it's under such unfortunate circumstances."

The knight looks slightly towards the ground, deep in thought. Then he raises his head again, speaking with careful cadence, as if to properly find the words with every half of a sentence.

"You must understand... When I mentioned in the cave that I am no nobleman... I meant that. My youth was spent being a stable boy. A stable boy at the castle, but nonetheless a position without prestige. But I always wished to serve His Majesty not only with fork, but also with blade. Eventually... I was given a chance."

The man before Emilia rubs the back of his head, seemingly feeling bashful.

"I'm afraid I cannot disclose more than that. I swore an oath. All I can say is, there's a reason why I was tasked with the special operation by His Majesty during the war. And also... why I had to rely on assembling such a colorful entourage of mine. It's the first time I'm leading men under my nonexistent banner, the first time I'm so far away from the castle... But I'm not regretting my choices."

"I see."
Emilia nods.
"Your choices so far leave nothing to regret, Lord Dunas. Take heart in that. But....should you find yourself with a burden, know that I would be happy to help you shoulder it, as a fellow soldier-in-arms."

While making her way down to the local merchant, Tanja was momentarily struck dumb by the sight of a fellow blade climbing an otherwise unremarkable tree in seeming pursuit of a particularly fluffy squirrel. Eventually though, she managed to utter out a response.
: "Eiriol... is this some form of training?"

[SirAston]

"Thank you. A Maiden Warrior's approval means a lot to me. Now I am certain that I am on the correct path in my life."

Dunas nods in return.

"And the same offer goes to you. I am not a lord who hides behind taxes and books, any burden of yours shall be mine too."

A light bow indicates the end of the conversation and Dunas excuses himself, walking down the main road.

Her sudden interest must mean the Count Palatine mentioned me in his letter...

Eiriol turned too see the voice addressing her, hanging one a few branches as she did.


"Nope I'm just trying to pet the squirrel." she says matter of factly with a smile "Did you want to pet one too?"
