Can I have dwarves live in Ice layers?
« on: May 26, 2022, 11:48:46 am »

I embarked on a Glacier. And I know that I need to hit the stone layer to farm plants. But can I use the 20+ ice layers for workshops/living quarters, Or will the dwarves freeze to death unless they are in stone layers?

There is no problems with living in ice layers for your dwarfs. Only thing to have in mind is magma and water.

If you want to bring magma up for workshops, the natural ice will melt, so you need to construct walls where the magma will be. You can use the mined ice boulders to make those walls though.

As for water, it will freeze. This can be a problem for water in buckets needed in your hospital and for cleaning. Your dwarfs will pick up a bucket of water, but by the time they get to where they need it, it might have turned into a bucket of ice.
