When you meet a god in-game, is it in the form of it's favored creature? You know, in dwarf mode it says 'so and so the god of whatever often takes the form of a frogman' or something like that.

It's either a demon, or it doesn't actually exist.  If you join a non-demon cult, you can "talk" to your divine entity by talking with the air around you,  but they never say or do anything.   No avatars, no manifestations.

Except for the demons, of course.

at a very very restricted number of maps there could be some sort of normal demonpits, except it's a underground temple, filled with stuff according to what the god represents, and some sort of avatar, that could be either hostile or friendly

Wait, I've met a human deity in a pub once.  It was 38a and I was using a modded  race, but that shouldn't matter much since I was in a human town.  I tried talk with it but it wouldn't say anything... I can't remember but I think it took me into the conversation window and it just had "..." as his response to anything I asked.  I was hoping for an EPIC quest or something... but I wasn't a part of his/her cult so that may have been it.  The unit was white and I can't remember whether or not it flashed...

You can meet a few gods in that game, and even kill some of them. Would be a cool profession for an adventurer in DF: "God Hunter" ^^

It would be cooler if a God could entirely Unmake you... not only would you just cease to be, but any engravings, coins, etc... of you get either wiped clean, or get changed to "unrecognizable dwarf/elf/human", and nobody even remembers you.
