Ashley's nail file disappeared sometime after Apolline made her entrance, replaced with the lighter once more, steadily clicking away.

"Arnsbach has some quite nice ships and ports," She remarks airily, "It would be a shame if something were to happen to them."

Elisa

Elisa laughed. "Finally, someone's talking some sense. Count me in!"

The briefing officer,  a distinguished man with slightly greying hair, chose now to appear. He took one look at the bulkhead by the door - it had sustained two large dents, one for each forceful entrance - and wordlessly entered the room. Upon witnessing everyone saluting, he turned to Apolline.

"Ah, Apolline, I see you have already gotten the proper discipline in. Wonderful."

Apolline flushed scarlet but said nothing. One ear was still twitching.

He then turned to the assembled Vestals.

"Now, this will be a sort of... proving mission. Many of the Naval Command are still wary of Vestals as combatants. This is your chance to show they're wrong."

He paused for effect.

"We have received word that Arnsbach is trying to move a convoy into the Strait. We are unsure what it contains, but as we are trying to control the Lake of Idyll, we cannot let them in. I assume you are familiar with the prize rules - stop the convoy, and use force only if they refuse to be boarded. This should be a good test of your abilities, no?"

"Don't let us down."

Casey

"Yessir"

She saluted

"What is the estimate of enemy forces, sir?"

Elisa

Elisa sighed. "Ah, raiding convoys. That takes me back... way back..."

"You guys are gonna have fun with this - if we do it right, that is. Here's the plan - you all will approach from behind and give them a good scare. They'll race forward, trying to avoid an incident... and they'll run straight into me at the other end of the strait. We'll take their booty without firing a single shot. As much bullion as you can carry!"

She closed her eyes, thinking of the glory days.

Mireille

"What about escorts? A single ship will not be able to repel even a token force, let alone take prizes while doing so." Mireille nodded at Casey. "Existing intelligence is a must, though I will of course supplement that with what I can gather in the field. Luca Dumas can approach unseen, take stock of their forces, and deliver that intelligence to the rest of the battle group easily."

"As far as we can tell, the convoy's protection consists of a couple of outmoded destroyers. Nothing that can stand in a battlefleet. Normally we would send a submarine force to attack something this vulnerable, yet... we have Vestals here, so it would be a good idea to put them to use, no?"

Mireille

The Vestal squinted for a brief moment, but otherwise kept her expression smooth. If this convoy was of importance, why leave it so poorly guarded? "I will still dedicate my efforts to reconnaissance, sir, unless you strongly believe I should be on escort duty. The small force is suspect."

Elisa

"I like your thinking - don't leave anything to chance! As for the small force, you're more surprised than I - you'd be surprised how much plunder is left ripe for the taking due to complacency alone."
