Remember to check the core thread for the combat report after reading your revisions!

Proposal: Wasabi Variant WOO Mk1 Donutstacker
Difficulty: Normal
Result: 6+2=8, Average

The Donutstacker-Wasabi is technically a larger fusion engine than the original Donutstacker. The decompression chambers have been repurposed to act as secondary reaction chambers as opposed to a safety mechanism. This increase in power is notable, giving the Donutstacker-Wasabi the ability to better provide power for the Hitman as well as any future mechs of similar size with little issue. Larger mechs may also be powered by the Donutstacker-Wasabi, although we're likely to rapidly come up against limitations as we develop more subsystems or energy-intensive weaponry.

A thick spherical steel casing surrounds the reactor, providing ample protection from smaller weapons, but as both mech and conventional armaments advance we will likely see the efficacy of this casing rapidly drop off.

The WOO Mk1 Donutstacker-Wasabi is considered Cheap and, as it is specified as a variant, will not replace the original outright.

Proposal: HTM-1* "Hitman II"
Difficulty: Easy
Result: (6+6)+1=13, Unexpected Boon

The Hitman is a good enough mech, but it could always be better. To this end, we have replaced the Mk4 fusion engine with the Donutstacker to provide a small boost in power and swapped out the Small Lasers at each side with the new "Type 25" 40mm Precision Cannon. Space was made in the torso for internal ammo storage, which has been protected by a layer of steel armor to reduce the chances of ammunition cooking off on an unlucky hit (or lucky, depending on which side of the barrel you're on). Overall performance of the mech is slightly increased, although there is no way for sure to gauge how efficient it is in combat until, well, mechs see combat.

One addition was made to the Hitman beyond the original specifications. A rail behind the seat in the cockpit runs up to the ceiling and, when the pilot presses the big yellow and black striped button, a square plate of armor and hull at the top of the cockpit blows away, the catapult on the rail activates, and the pilot seat is launched high into the air, where thrusters beneath the seat automatically control descent. Pilots appreciate knowing they might survive the destruction of their mech.

When the new Hitman was introduced to the Imperial Defense Force it had half a dozen names scribbled on the paperwork in just as many different styles of handwriting. Looking over the lot of them they adopted the least offensive, maintaining the Hitman name but changing its designation to HTM-1TO. The HTM-1TO "Hitman" is Cheap.

IT IS NOW THE DESIGN PHASE! You have two normal designs as well as one Mech Credit design.

“Oni's Bark” Type 77 120 MM Cannon
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Heres how i'n currently leaning, so i put these together before I go to bed. I think we need better armor, and given the lack of a new variant, I think the Republic is going heavy in on improving all their basics which is bad for use given the Type 25 is struggling with basic steel.  So, Hard in on a new anti mech gun, a heavy mech and armour so that we can trade up, creating a mech that can act as a anti-mech hardpoint while the Hitman can keep running around killing non-mechs like right now. EDIT:made some changes. The Oni is now 3 mounts, with 1 being medium to mount the Oni's bark

Heat Sink Bank
The Heat Sink Bank concept certainly seem sound, but their use in the field is clearly not up to spec, so we've begun an inquiry to figure out why.
While the Heat sink system overall may need some fine-tuning to run optimally, we've identified two major problems. The first is the shitty, shitty coolant we were forced to use by Weitraum environmental activists, which we have subsequently replaced with a far more effective Freon. The second problem was subpar material choice in the heat sink fins themselves caused by, uh, reasons. We've since replaced the material with a graphite based one. Combined these should turn our heat sinks into something competently made.

"Kanabo" Type 1 7cm Railgun
The first mech-mounted production railgun introduced into service, the Type 1 is designed fit on our standard small mounts. Using a ferromagnetic sabot to propel a depleted uranium penetrator at outrageous velocities, the Type 1 has a quite remarkable effect on target. Furthermore, the velocity of the shell is used to draw air along the rails to reduce the substantial cooling needs of the system, and a small radiator slightly reduces heat generated internally. The integrated capacitor banks mean we should be able to power it well enough, but with current fusion engines it's rate of fire is likely to end up comparable to the Oni's Bark, and not necessarily favorably.

Proposal: RockSkin Armour
Difficulty: Hard
Result: (2+1)-1=2, Utter Failure

Not all armor is created equally. This is definitely the case for the RockSkin Armour. The multilayered armor has a protective thin steel plate meant to protect the rest of the armor from minor preventable damage than tank heavier weaponry itself. The layer beneath that is a metal-impregnated foam that uses both filings and filaments to strengthen it and maintain shape while resisting both energy- and projectile-based weapons. A third layer provides further protection, mostly from energy weapons, in the form of a honeycombed layer of ceramic plates. This internal ablative armor is designed to disintegrate in a cloud of laser-dissipating particulates. This is all backed by another honeycomb-reinforced steel shelled layer filled with aerogel that expands to fill any gaps in the armor created by enemy fire. This aerogel won't stop solid projectiles, but it is very effective at reducing the impact of energy-based weaponry.

Unfortunately the armor currently delaminates violently under fire. The brittle ceramic plates can crumble if a mech walks too heavily (note: they never don't walk too heavily), and the metal-filled foam is very easy to heat up and cool at a snail's pace, putting the mech's cooling systems under further duress.

RockSkin Armour is Incomplete, being too bad to field in its current condition.

Proposal: "Oni's Bark" Type 77 120mm Cannon
Difficulty: Very Hard
Result: (4+3)-2=5, Below Average

"Slightly more reasonable steps, perhaps?" - Commodore Dave Abbera, 371st Orbital

The Oni's Bark is a Medium Weapon that fires solid projectiles in two-round bursts. The first round is a high-density armor penetrating shell meant to compromise enemy armor, followed in quick succession by a second round carrying a high explosive shaped warhead. The rapidfire nature of the weapon does cause a fair bit of recoil, and the current recoil dampeners are not completely up to the task (and moving will make accurate follow-up even harder). They're still 120mm rounds, so even if they don't work together exactly as desired they're still going to be felt. Reloading is slow, steady process allowing a salvo to be fired every eight seconds, but heat build-up is significant so sustaining even that could prove to be an issue in ill-prepared mechs.

Otherwise, the gun functions relatively reliably. There is a lot of info in the notes about how it'll function in certain locations of a mech, but that's not too important to us weapons guys.

The "Oni's Bark" Type 77 120mm Cannon is considered Expensive.

Proposal: Oni 50t "Heavy" Walker
Difficulty: Hard
Result: (5+4)-1=8, Average

The Oni 50t "Heavy" Walker is a 50-ton mech with a bulky triangular body wider at the shoulders and tapering in toward the waist. A Small Weapon Mount at each shoulder houses a "Type 25" 40mm Precision Cannon and a Medium Weapon Mount is installed centrally in the torso with no weapon currently fitted into it. The rudimentary L-shaped arms end in conical fists and act as tertiary weapons. While not capable of brawling in the sense of a boxer, the Oni can launch powerful strikes not unlike a piston, using the tip of the conefists and immense force to punch through thick armor. The arms can pivot somewhat in their shoulder joints to provide a better range of attack. Another triangular shape makes up the head and cockpit and is equipped with a pair of powerful spotlights resembling eyes. It also comes with the catapult-assisted ejection system!

Armor on the Oni is very thick for mechs of an equivalent weight class, and angling across its entire body aid in reducing effective incoming fire fairly well. Thanks to the WOO Mk1 "Donutstacker-Wasabi" powering the mech it can still hit speeds greater than the Hitman.

While the Oni has plenty of potential, the complete lack of any form of heat sink has led to rapid overheating of all test models, and we expect this to be the case in the field as well. The mechs still function, but this oversight is extremely limiting. You live and you learn! Otherwise the Oni 50t "Heavy" Walker is Cheap.

Steamcloak Subpar heatsink coolant modification

Created from water that has been heavily treated with Glycol in order to thicken and increase the boiling point from that of standard water, The Steamcloak revision replaces the previous coolant used in the subpar heatsink. With the replacement of the original subpar coolant, It is the hope of the design team that we will be able to increase the cooling power of the Subpar heat sink without being forced to touch the majority of the system.

In the event of extreme overheating, The Glycol/Water coolant will boil, overwhelming the radiator's ability to vent heat. In such a case, The glycol coolant will be contained in a secondary storage tankm separated from the primary coolant well. If the Coolants heat rapidly outpaces the ability of the radiators to vent, This secondary waiting pool will be vented, releasing a large amount of steam out of the sinks, creating the appearance of a massive “cloak” of steam from the sinks from their placements around the body, giving it the name “steamcloak”.

As the Steamcloaks coolant is based on water treated with glycol, the replacement of vented coolant is a rather easy process, requiring only the mixing of either locally obtained water or from the primary supplies of the military attachment with highly concentrated Glycol conditioners. This makes the replacement of coolant a rather simple affair in any environments where water is available.

ONI-1TO
A variant of the Oni, designed by the moron who forgot to add heatsinks to the blueprints in the first place as penance, the ONI adds in the Oni's bark cannon into the medium torso mount. More importantly, the Oni adds 5 Subpar Heatsinks to the 50 ton mech, three more then the Hitman. This is both due to the requirements of a bigger mech, the lacking capabilities of the subpar heatsink, and the noted heat exhaust of the Oni's bark. All of these combined, led to the placement of 4 Subpar heat sinks along the spine, and a single heat sink located directly under the medium torso mount, in order to ensure direct cooling straight to the oni's primary weapon.

And heres a fix for the Rockskin when we actually have a revision

We should probably mount the 120mm onto the Mech that was just designed to mount it as the revision.
