Funny thing: In science fiction, we discuss the implications of machines outliving people.

Yet, that rarely happens.
How many cars are on the road that are a century old versus people who are a century old?

Machines, made by imperfect humans, are even more imperfect.
They require constant maintenance, or they break down.
This means Old Machine People need regular people to maintain them.  Over time, those regular people have fewer reasons to do so, until nobody skilled enough to keep them alive cares to do so.
