Since the WWIII thread appears to be permanently down, I've created this thread to discuss FACTS and NEWS regarding the War in Ukraine.

This is NOT the thread to discuss your thoughts, beliefs, or opinions, as we need to keep the flow of information going.
The Emotions Thread was created to express those thoughts, beliefs, opinions, reactions, etc.
They ARE valuable, but in the proper place so as to ensure the information flows.

For Ukrainians: It is vitally important that the suffering of your people be given full and accurate coverage on as many mediums as possible.  Thus, to keep this channel open, it is vital that you do NOT respond emotionally in this thread.  It is a big ask, but hopefully you can see the need to keep the information flowing.

For Russians: If you are not in favor of the actions of the soldiers from your country, then it is vital that you allow this thread to proceed unhindered.

Ok Junior Reporters, your job is to collate and fact check info.  Thank you for your service in this endeavor.

EDIT: Due to the success of both this thread and the Emotions thread, and the overall maturity of all the forumites, I've decided that we can probably comment our thoughts to the news in this thread.  I would still ask that more emotional responses be routed over to the Emotional thread(s).

How an ordinary Russian TV viewer (one of whom I currently am) sees it.

I learned about the monstrous events in Bucha yesterday morning from the news that Russia was convening the UN Security Council in connection with the massacre by Ukrainian Nazis in Bucha.

In the evening, the Channel One anchor explained everything. And I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears:

"NATO has been preparing he provocation in Bucha for a long time and at the highest level. It is also confirmed by the fact that President Biden called Putin a "butcher" not long ago”.

“Listen how consonant the English word "butcher" and the name of the city "Bucha" are. This is how the Western audience was subconsciously prepared for this provocation."

I'm telling you, the monstrosity of lies on federal channels is unimaginable. And, unfortunately, so is its persuasiveness for those who have no access to alternative information.

My point is that Putin's propaganda has long ceased to be a tool. They are actual warmongers and have become a party in their own right.

The endlessly squealing anchors and their "experts" are revving up their fury and have long since surpassed the military in their aggressiveness.

They demand a war to the bitter end, storming Kyiv, bombing Lviv. Even the prospect of a nuclear war does not scare them. They mop up the floor with their fellow Putinists on live television if they as much as hint at the fact that peace talks are a good thing.

It's such a disgusting uroboros. Politics is a propaganda snake biting its own tail. Propagandists create the kind of public opinion that no longer simply allows Putin to commit war crimes, but demands them of him.

Warmongers should be treated as war criminals. From the editors-in-chief to the talk show hosts to the news editors, all of this Thousand Hills Radio should be sanctioned now and tried someday.

I would also like to remind you that the National Media Group, which owns the lion's share of this lie machine, no doubt belongs to Putin personally, which is why it is even formally headed by Putin's mistress Alina Kabaeva (see our investigation "Palace for Putin").

Most drastic measures should be taken to make the work of these Goebbels heirs more difficult. From a complete ban on the supply and service of equipment, to searching for their assets in the West (which undoubtedly exist) and putting them on visa blacklists.

The monstrous atrocities in Bucha, Irpin and other Ukraininan cities were committed not only by those who tied the hands of peaceful people behind their backs, not only by those who shot them in the back of the head.

But also by those who stood by and whispered: "Come on, shoot, give us some nice material for our late-night TV show".

Thankfully, I've been relatively chill. Frankly, the massacre is hands down the most upsetting news story I ever heard, but I know that taking my anger out on the people around me isn't a productive way of dealing with it.

YouTube has suspended the account of a Chinese vlogger reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Wang Jixian, a resident of Odesa for the past four years, said he had been posting videos of the Russian invasion to counter China's narrative of what was happening in the country. He says he had received multiple messages not to "provoke" Beijing.

China has been making concerted efforts to stifle strong views about the conflict in the country and has refrained from condemning Russia so far.

"I'm countering lies and panic by reporting from the front line," Wang told Radio Free Asia.

He says his YouTube account was suspended for posting "violent content" in a video from 28 March. Wang says his appeal against the suspension was ignored by the platform.

The BBC was able to confirm that although the channel is up, Wang is unable to post new videos.

Chinese censors have also cracked down on Wang's videos on the messaging app WeChat and Douyin, the country's version of TikTok.

Wang's Chinese social media accounts were previously banned after he spoke to CNN.
