Frostbound (God SG)
« on: March 05, 2022, 07:29:18 pm »

Frostbound:

An endless sky stretched out around you as you plunged through the atmosphere.

Clutched beneath you was your Totem, crafted from your own essence to create a shelter from the cold.

Beneath you was Frostbound, stretching for tens of thousands of miles. It was a bleak wasteland of ice and rock, prowled by beastial gods and ancient predators. Mountains scrape the heavens, and in their gorges lie the huddled remnants of civilization. Life is demanding and brutally short in this land of ice and snow, but they survive. Until they draw the attention of the monsters that wander the land, and they are snatched up for a snack.

Frostbound, true name forgotten and buried, is both God, and the realm itself. Frostbound is old, older than the knowledge of the Wisest of the Lords, even older than the primordial Fires that birthed your universe. Here, all is Frostbound, from unending sky to the rocky crags that mark the borders of the world.

Around you was a shield of blessed fire, protecting you from Frostbound’s wrath and cold, and through the flames you could see other spears of fire dive from the sky, hundreds of arrows falling in unison, piercing the sky together. This was an expedition, an invasion of the foolish and brave. None would trust the others implicitly, but this way some would make it to ground.

As expected, there was a response from the hoary old god.

A great Sormwind, laden with crystals the size of mountains and dark with fury, arose from the earth. Those gods unlucky enough to be caught in its path were smothered like embers in a breath, crushed or torn to shreds.

Frostbound was ancient and cantankerous. None of the gods who claimed wisdom as a virtue would venture here, kings dared not for their authority withered in the cold, nor those who valued their survival above all us.

 No, you came because:

A- You are a god of the Hunt, and there is no greater place to seek beasts, abominations, and titans to slay than here on Frostbound.

B- You are a god of the Sun, and there are few darker places that deserve the light of mercy, justice, and growth.

C-You are a god of Knowledge, and within the vast ruins that Frostbound has buried are secrets worth dying for.

D- You are a god of Artifice, and between the raw materials and the testing grounds, there are few places better suited for your forge.

E- You are a god of Ice, come to die.

F- Write-In options here (per GM approval)

You will have two other aspects to pick in the coming votes, this vote is for your main domain.

Also: What is your name?

And what is one of your Forms? (You will be able to shapeshift from human size to giant, but what do you tend to look like?)

You are Karnid, and you take the form of a pale, handsome human male with long horns and long, black hair.  In addition, you have many lridiculously large weapons covered in red runes strapped to you.

You are a god of the Hunt.

You hunt the most dangerous of game: giant primordial god-beasts  with earth-shattering power.

And of course, they represent a quite potent source of Essence and rare materials.

In all things tracking, killing, and butchery you have no equal. At both range and in close quarters you are deadly.

Frostbound will make a fine hunting ground.

The Stormwind ripped into the flight of falling gods, and you braced yourself as it was upon you.

Buffeted by screaming winds that could strip flesh from bone, translucent shards of crystal sharp and hard enough to pierce steel.

But your Totem was strong, crafted and formed from your very essence.

Frostbound is inhospitable, to both man and god. To survive one need a refuge, a shelter. That is what the Totem’s provide, a reinforcement of your own divine aspects, a bubble of stability in a raging storm.

But this storm was vicious, and you could feel the Totem creak and groan as the shield was buffeted. With a roar you pour more of your essence and power into your creation and you feel the heat resurge as the groaning ceases.

And then you hit the ground.

The ice shattered and screamed as your totem plunged through sheet of frost until it hit solid ground. The Totem stands straight and tall, and when it pulses with energy and heat, melting all around it.

In the middle of the crater it stood exuding power and security. The Totem was:

A. Formed with Artifice, it pumps and burns, a steel tower endlessly consuming and producing heat and light. Forges are attached to the tower, aiding the craft and production of great artifacts, machines, and firearms.

B. Formed with Fire, the Totem is an ever burning flame, a pillar of divine fire. Ice has no purchase on you, and will lessen the Essence cost of maintaining the Totem. More monsters may be drawn to you as well.

C. Formed with the grace of the Sun , your Totem is a pillar, bound with a miniature sun at its point. Your light gives life and warmth, and deceptions and shadows have no place in your domain. No one can escape your gaze underneath your Sun.

D. Formed from Blood , your Totem is a living object, a twisting pile of shifting flesh and warm blood. It’s breath is rich and potent, and those who breathe it in grow vigorous. The Totem consumes sacrifices most efficiently, and grows stronger from doing so.

E. Something else?

Also voting on character name/appearance will be open till creation is done.

Thinking Fire. It attracts more monsters, which is in fact a POSITIVE for us, granted it will make it somewhat harder to build a civilization in our totem's protection, what with the probable constant monster attacks.

D is the most explicitly upgradeable totem, which is neat, but all the options are appealing.

Your Totem is the Pillar of the Sun. Scalding steam surrounds you, but you ignore the heat as the cloud begins to clear around the Pillar. Tall and proud it is, made of marble, but all is eclipsed by the sun you have bound at its peak.

Tamed by your will, you have bound the pale reflection of your favorite star, a lusty yellow that has graced your days as a young deity. It now dances at the tip, bringing forth a life giving radiance that warms you to the core. It will require essence to maintain, either from you, any mortals you find, or the beasts that you slay.

Looking around the crater formed that will become your home, you find it has a radius of roughly a mile in every direction, and the walls of ice rising a hundred meters around you. It would take a few hours work to bore tunnels and/or ramps, and soon perhaps they could fashion platforms to raise and lower goods and people into and out of the crater.

And speaking of mortals, you can see a group of them approaching your crater now, having seen it fall like a star from the heavens. They are quite aways yet, but you could go out and guide them in.

Of course you prepare for anything you might find out there and pull out your:

A- Hunter’s Run; The Sled of Endurance:
Crafted from the finest tree of Elysium, it was finely shaped to glide over the ice and snow of Frostbound. It grants unending endurance for those pulling the sled, allowing Hunts that stretch for hundred of miles, and enter the fight as energized as when you started. It can also shift in shape and size to carry back even the largest of beasts (It does have an eventual limit, and seems to grow to fit requirements). It could even carry your Totem if you ever need to move. You will have to pull it yourself for now, but you could eventually train beasts to do it for you.

B-Branch of the First Tree; The Staff of Life.
Taken from the last branch of the first tree placed in Elysium, this branch brings life even to the dead (though the soul still needs to be present.) Vitality rushes through whoever holds the staff, and plants bloom in the wake of it touching the ground. Paradises sprout wherever it is planted, as seeds and insects spill and crawl forth from the staff’s endless grooves and knots.

C- Titan’s Fall; The Bow of Blood:
Fashioned from the Tree of Life from Elysium, this bow brings only death. Each arrow that impacts flesh forms a bond between the hunter and hunted, allowing the Hunter to track the target wherever it might hide, drain the vitality from it, and alter its body chemistry. Stronger targets can resist it to some effect, but even removing the arrows is only a temporary reprieve, for a trace of the Fall will remain.

D- Something else?

Alright final part of Character Creation! This is also a choice of domain along with the Artifact, so take that into consideration as well. If you liked a domain choice earlier, now would be a good time to create an artifact to go with it! I do reserve the right to veto or amend suggestions, but these are pretty powerful artifacts so it shouldn’t be too hard to stay in the lines.

Also final Vote on Name and favored Appearance/Form.

Spoiler: Tiebreaker (click to show/hide)
