Chernobyl has been seized and the powerplant staff taken hostage. Russia has also formally demanded what is effectively unconditional surrender from Ukraine, as Ukraine officially confirms they've taken the Antonov Airport that's relatively close to Ukraine. Russia is in the process of landing further forces there for an assault on Kiev in the hours to come.

Fighting is a mixed bag elsewhere reportedly, with things being toughest for Russia & co in the east (where Ukrainian forces have been fighting for the last 8 years). Forces coming in from Crimea have faced little resistance, while from the north there are mixed reports.

EDIT: India has urged Putin to cease hostilities. They express concern about the safety of Indian students in Ukraine. This morning, 3000 Indian students had already gathered outside the Indian embassy in Kiev to seek shelter.

tbh, I thought this would be a lot more slow and less of an all out blitz. Sadly unless anyone actually comes to defend Ukraine, it looks more like the latter than the former...a fast paced war that will be (mostly) over within a week at this rate and maybe even THAT is on the high side. Especially if they are already demanding Ukraine to surrender and have surrounded the capital.

Turns out some posters here the other month were right when I was talking about a potential world war 3 some time back with russia/china at the helm...modern wars aren't fought over months or years, they are over in days.

The conventional war will likely be over in days, but chances are there will be guerilla conflict for years after this if Russia tries to actually stay there. Which seems likely at this rate, so far we've seen a lot of predictions that hinge on the assumption that Putin's motives are small-scale and sensible turn out to be wildly incorrect.

Sounds like Europe/America doesn't plan on interrupting SWIFT banking that Russia may be utilizing as part of sanctions, per Biden's speech right now. "We'll see how Russia is doing in a month with these sanctions."

I know it's tenuous, but will we have a Ukraine in a month?
