Ukraine is now claiming they've retaken Antonov airport, which if true [edit: could, not would] buy them some time.

As for SWIFT, reportedly Italy and Germany are holdouts against taking action there.

From what I heard they had shelled it.

Good news, either way, if true.

The fog of war is real.

Already corrected from elsewhere in the government - fighting still ongoing there. Rough.

Protests in Russia seem to be ramping up.

Yes, and the number of arrested protesters is rising equally

First Putin steals our idea of invading a country with oil, and now he want to take our spot for largest incarcerated population? How dare. :V

If you're an enlisted US soldier, good luck out there.

And now back to reporting the airport has been retaken by Ukraine, though who knows at this point.

Also, per the prior comment, 7,000 additional US troops will be deployed to unspecified locations in Europe.

Russia seems to be offering terms of surrender that amount to vassalage. Under any normal analysis, Russia's position in this conflict is nowhere near the point where such a step is militarily justified.

Report keeps changing whether the airport's in Ukrainian control or still being fought over, my guess is a back-and-forth. Ukrainian national guard also evidently did a number on the VDV. And evidently civilians are being armed in preparation. Guess I was right that Russia's gonna have a hell of a time with guerilla conflicts even if they win the conventional stage.

Same deal with the demand for soldiers to lay down their arms I bet. They know it's not going to be that easy, because it's clear Putin won't stop at anything less than conquest. :/

The point is that you usually don't offer terms like that unless you're confident you've already won the war. Or if you've lost it and are trying to win at the bargaining table before anybody else notices. There's not much room for Putin to escalate this further conventionally, so the only third option I can think of is that he's trying to convince the handful of holdouts on sanctions that he's really not the aggressor and it is all Ukraine's fault.

Sanctions from the US, UK, and EU are looking to be even heavier than promised, and Biden appears to be releasing petroleum reserves to Europe to counter the loss of Russian energy sources.

Note that (aside from the earlier Nordstream 2 deal) there aren't any US sanctions on russian fossil fuels thus far, which are far and away their largest exports.

Directly, no. The currency sanctions mean that they can't use dollars, euros, or yen to sell fossil fuels anymore, though.

Regardless, China's position in this is kind of the elephant in the room... the US is trying a tech export ban like they did with Huawei, but not sure how effective that'll be.
