measure how long it takes to get a coin's worth of energy from the adventurers, begin placing an endless line of coins spaced by that distance ahead of them to lure them deeper.

Come on, the longer they walk into our depths, the more energy we'll get out of them when they go marching back out the other way, its an investment that extends how long they willingly explore us, and done well enough the'll decide to stay the night, or possibly do something stupid like march for seven days and seven nights before realizing they ran out of food in their quest to gather an infinite line of coinage.

I assume, baselessly, that we cannot spawn things behind intruders, as that seems against the principles of fair play dungeons in fiction usually adhere to for whatever fiat reason, but if we can, that is definitely a good idea yes.

Well, if you'd set it up beforehand, you could obviously have a trap that locks them in (or attempts to). But no, in this instance, as the adventurers pass through the corridor, they weaken your grasp over it (automatically, they're not doing it on purpose- the mere presence of untainted humans is a sort of sanctifying force). So you cannot spawn stuff behind them.

Note that this is not an excuse I made up on the spot. Who would do such a thing?

Clearly we need to find some way to reliably taint humans, whatever that means, when they enter our dungeon.
