I was just attacked by a fire-breathing dragon.  We managed to kill it, but it set the forest on fire.  Now, my game keeps getting paused over and over again every time a tree comes down.

Is there a way to use DFHack to stop my game from pausing non-stop?

Also, is there a way to gather ashes from the burned areas outside?

It is possible to turn off pause-on-alerts, but it can be somewhat problematic when an alert that wasn't another tree falling down finally arrives. Go to data -> init -> announcements and make sure you turn it back on again after you've survived the complete destruction of the biome.
