dunderheaded illiterate dwarf!
« on: July 18, 2007, 07:39:00 am »

my first human trading caravan had just arrived on the map (of course my road was just in sight of the map edge but not quite there yet....) and i rushed to order trade items to the depot.  this is when i noticed that my new craft dwarves hadn't been making anything.  argh!
suddenly, as i was looking for the layabouts, one of them was struck by a strange mood and took over a leather shop.  huh.  he just stood there with an exclamation point over his head, so i went to see what he wanted, since i hadn't yet gotten doors on the workshop to lock him in with (my usual method for dealing with fey dwarves).
there i found him, squatting on his workstool muttering "Atheliklist".  huh?  darn, the fool couldn't even mutter in english.  then i got the bright idea of looking in the game files, where i remembered seeing a dwarf/english dictionary.  sure enough, i found what i was looking for... sort-of.

so he wants to make a whispering ring.  fabulous.  that really helped a lot.  do i have any doors in my stockpile????

okay, so it turned out to be a mule leather long skirt when it was finished.  i guess my dwarf language skills aren't as sharp as i thought they were.  at least i didn't have to lock him up!

No, you've got it backwards. He wants a ring whisper.

Hahaha, this is normal. When they collect everything, they merely mutter the name of the creation they are making. Much like Toady must mutter "Dwarf Fortress" throughout his day.

ah well, it took my jeweler THREE rough emeralds to make Azinlilum Innoklûkothsal, a Emerald bucket (ooh, wow).  he thinks he's so cool.  next i suppose he's going to use 5 rubies to make a little red wagon, then head for the beach.... hehe

I had a Jewler take a little Emerald and make a 400 lb Coffin out of it.  :) He died of thirst before he could stager to the liquor.

No, I think the cook would be in charge of sugar-coating the cows.

You are a lifesaver! Round and probably in tropical flavors.
