The worst thing AI is going to be is an ethics issue.

Effective Altruism is a whole humanitarian institution which these days is pretty much focused on AI. There are whole research institutes dedicated to minimizing risk which are not optimistic. We already have a growing stack of AI fuckups. Come on.

Worrying about misanthropic AI is basically people being worried about the next step in human advancement, which has been the case since the dawn of history. Christ, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ug the Caveman was trying to stop his contemporaries from using fire or tools.
