Better get that Orc template.  Gonna need green beefy bois to hold the front line against those Reavers.

Influence Design (Fire Plane Exclusive): "Gold Bug" Self-filling Coin Purse
Quote
"If a sound vacuum could be cast, why not a gold one?"

The "Gold Bug" Self-filling Coin Purse is an enchanted coin purse that when activated, will vacuum up gold coins or jewelry until filled.  Once fully laden with treasure, it can be retrieved by its owner.

Part of a so-called "Heist Kit" we will provide the Orcs of the Fire Plane, an Orc-sized composite recurved bow can launch a special Gold Bug arrow that includes a long trailing retrieval cord.  A single thief user may stealthily siphon coins from a dragon's hoard one shot at a time, or a full crew could perform a daring massed volley grab.

It may not be as fun as grabbing a handful of coins from under a sleeping dragon, but it's more survivable.

Influence Design (Fire Plane Exclusive): Pa Roy's Escape Rocket
Quote
According to Auran folklore, there was once an infamous thief by the name of "Pa Roy" who signature modus operandi was to escape each heist by tying himself to a large alchemical rocket.

Clearly a fairy tale for us, our Orcish allies seems to have the "right stuff" to make this a reality.  Blasting their way out of the most heavily guarded dragon's hoard, it's guaranteed the gold will at least survive the explosive journey.  Will it prove safer for the actual heisters though?  Will leave that for the orcs to find out.  Points for style though, right?

The Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow

Many things of Orcish make are deeply confusing to Auran society, and reveal a tension inherent to its organization - the strange smokey things that the big crude stealy green men make are primed, in fact, to be deeply offensive to those closed and lofty minds of the Spirit District. However, the potential orcish creations represent potentially great advancements to the Auran military effort, and thusly are something those warrior and strategist leaders of the Mind District cannot, under any circumstances, allow to be sidelined - and Kupros, simply eager to go beat the hell out of Evivezet, throws in behind the Mind District. Thus, the supposed supremacy of the Spirit District is called into question. Still, in this particular case, they extracted one concession: it is not, as its Orcish inventors insisted, to be called the "Fat Fucking Orcish Bazooka". It is, instead, the Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow".

The Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow mostly looks like a rather large and fairly ugly, dark grey tube of hardened metal, something very mystifying to Auran eyes - but it benefits from an Orcish advancement in magic that bodes well for Orcish-made magical devices of the future - inscribing magical spells into solid objects in ways which trigger at given conditions. The Boltbow contains two of these, allowing the user to cast a spell far beyond the range of what an initiate could cast, and casting a spell beyond the force of what an initiate could cast - but the whole thing is actually pretty simple. Clay inscribed with an Arcane Bolt is fitted onto the back of a ball of bronze, which is inscribed with a simple but powerful variation of Arcane Bolt known as "Blast Bolt", which does away with concerns of creating an independent, ranged projectile and instead just makes as large and fiery an explosion as possible once triggered.

Once the initiate (who operates the Boltbow) aims the device and places magical input into it, the clay containing Arcane Bolt triggers, sending the Blast Bolt ball flying - and once it makes contact with another surface, the bronze Blast Bolt ball triggers its spell, causing the explosion, meant to "mess them armory guys up what's good". The main drawbacks of this are that creating these objects is an expensive and time-consuming process and that Initiates still need to operate these, meaning that Boltbows will be fairly rare, but they are operated by dedicated crews, each consisting of a couple of pairs. In each pair, one of them is an Initiate, carrying the empty Boltbow, and the other one is a non-Initiate soldier with a large shield and a short sword, who carries the magical ammunition of the Boltbow in sacks on his person on the march and guards the Initiate with his shield while he fires the weapon.

Proposal: "Gold Bug" Self-filling Coin Purse
Difficulty: Easy
Result: (1+1)+1=3, Buggy Mess

Making an enchanted object can be difficult business, at least according to the recent experience of the Auran people. The "Gold Bug" is a special arrowhead that resembles a coin pouch, because they are. They are a coin pouch, as in they can only hold a single coin each. These small sacks are enchanted to "suck" when opened just before nocking and will suck up a single coin, or really anything similarly sized, before cinching itself closed. The Self-Filling Coin Purse can be retrieved by pulling the delicate string attached to the arrow that needs to be anchored elsewhere (usually one of the users fingers). The string is very difficult to detect, but very easy to break if the arrow even thinks about being snagged on something.

The "Gold Bug" Self-Filling Coin Purse is part of a "heist kit" (the Gold Bug arrows and a bow) designed solely for deployment in the Fire Plane, making it functionally Unique.

Proposal: The Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow
Difficulty: Theoretical Very Hard
Result: (3+2)-2=3, Buggy Mess

Making an enchanted object can be very difficult business, at least according to the recent experiences plaguing the Auran people. The FFOB is an unwieldy thin steel tube capped at one end save for a small fingerhole. The Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow is loaded with a clay plate enchanted to fire an arcane bolt from the inscribed side. These require careful loading, as a reversed plate will fire a blast through the fingerhole in use by the Initiate triggering the thing, and may also occasionally be set off by sudden impacts.

That would be difficult enough, but a bronze ball inscribed with a two-stage enchantment is also loaded into the tube. Carefully, obviously, as the ball is designed to ignore the first impact of the arcane bolt plate that propels it before triggering on the second impact. If the ball is loaded without enough caution it could trigger the first stage, setting off the second in the tube when the plate was fired, which was probably also immediately as the ball struck the plate. Cataclysmic failures of the weapon are a little too common, although thankfully then enchantment on the ball is weak enough to only really endanger the well-being of the two-man crew.

And then, after all that, there's no real way to aim the tube in any accurate manner other than into a dense crowd and hope.

Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow Fireteams are Rare due to the relative complexity of the enchantment process and the low aptitude of our Initiates, the weapon only being usable by the magically capable, and they tend to be very, very spaced out. Just in case.

Boltbow Ball Re-Enchantment

Well, on one hand, the Boltbow is total dogshit. On the other hand, the bumbling has already done some of the work of fixing it for us - the enchantment on the ball is already two-stage. Instead of one stage registering and ignoring a first impact and then a second registering and detonating on a second, however, a much more effective two-stage enchantment extends naturally off of what we’ve already done.

On the new enchantment, the first stage of the enchantment activated the enchantment to further input once it receives a magical input - or, very specifically, once it receives the magic of the Arcane Bolt that propels the ball. The second stage of the enchantment trigger, detonating the ball once it then makes impact with something is not changed, except that it can only occur once the first stage has activated the enchantment. Some time is also taken to improve the strength of the Blast Bolt spell.

The clay square is removed from the whole apparatus seeing as it isn’t actually exactly necessary - Initiates just are to cast Arcane Bolt directly against the ball, extending the casting digit(s) through the back of the Boltbow. The opening in the rear is expanded if need be to accommodate this. This does mean that Fireteams shouldn’t have completely terrible Initiates in them, but the things are expensive anyway so it only makes sense.

Revision: Ariadne's "Gold Bug" Self-filling Coin Purse

Quote
The "Gold Bug," not our finest moment in crafting.  Upon review, giving the Fletchers' Guild primacy in the project was a mistake.  The arrow flies, but is underwhelming in all other regards.

The Spinster Ariadne proposes a new kind of silk thread, that can both strengthen the retrieval cord and enlarge the coin purse.  This should allow each arrow to retrieve a more substantial haul, and be recovered more reliably.

Pa Roy's Biggest Fan Gets A Job
With the previous iteration of the Fair Fighting Orcish Boltbow, the people of the Mind District interacting with our Orcish Enclave got an earful - evidently they felt quite sidelined in the whole design process, a common complaint that was quite confusing until it was figured out that the Spirit District had managed to weave the exact balance required to fuck things up in the design process by sending mages unorthodox enough to get involved but orthodox enough to reject some of the more technological solutions the orcs had wished to propose, leading to what had almost just been their own product in the end.

So the Mind District's warriors turned to Pa Roy II (self-named after the a legendary Auran thief, evidently), an Orc whose proposal had previously been passed over, and employed him to add a more Orcish touch to the Boltbow. Pa Roy II was employed to replace the volatile enchanted clay square as a propellant, with an Orcish invention called a "rocket", which seems to use a chemical reaction to blast an impressive amount of fire from its rear and sends things flying. Rockets have been attached to the rear of each of the balls of the Boltbow, which has allowed for some simple re-enchantment to fix the explosive issues - instead of a two-stage impact enchantment, the ball is activated by an intentional channeling of magic (which also turns on the rocket), and then explodes when it impacts. The hole in the boltbow for the finger of the Initiate is moved to the side to prevent deeply, deeply stupid things from happening, but a wider hole in the back remains because rockets have fire.

Also, the Blast Bolt spell is strengthened in terms of explosive power, so the Boltbow doesn't suck.

Proposal: Ariadne's "Gold Bug" Self-Filling Coin Purse
Difficulty: Simple
Result: (6+5)+4=15, Unexpected Boon

Orcs caught wind of this project and laughed. A purse? Surely you were joking! No, what the Orcs needed was something worthwhile, something inspiring. Or just something bigger, because that meant even more loot.

"But bigger won't fly well on arrows," was a common protest, with which Orcs responded "use a bigger arrow", and "bows suck".

So those responsible with providing the Orcs a device to use went their own way with the Coin "Purse" and replaced the purse with a duffel bag, replaced the arrow with a javelin, replaced the weak line with a sturdy cord, and swapped out the bow for an orc arm. The one attached to the wielder, not a disembodied limb, to be clear.

Since the stealthy option we were trying for with the arrows was just about null and void with javelins, the Aurans developing the Gold Bug put extra work into the cord used to return the javelin to the owner. Once the bag fills itself (which happens very quickly) the spear begins to rotate and coil the cord around itself. If the other end is held firmly, the spear will roll itself up and back into the wielder's hand - sideways, so there's no risk of accidental self-impalement.

Ariadne's "Gold Bug" Self-Filling Coin Sack remains Unique as it is still meant solely for use in the Fire Plane.

Proposal: Pa Roy's Biggest Fan Gets A Job
Difficulty: Theoretical Very Hard
Result: (3+1)-2=2, Utter Failure

The Orcs do indeed have a very interesting alchemical powder cocktail that can mimic some more powerful fire magics, but they also have a very interesting lack of self preservation that results in them not accounting for or considering, or even acknowledging, the failure rate of their developments. Their alchemists are also fans of "eyeballing it". Measurements are boring after all. The resources to make the formula are largely native to the Fire Plane too, so there wasn't a massive stockpile for our own people to experiment with enough to tune the incendiary effect to the desired intensity.

As a result we have added Workshop Accidents to our armory. Workshop Accidents utilize a highly unpredictable and unstable solid alchemical cocktail to achieve their effect of leaving clouds of black smoke rising in the distance. Workshop Accidents are Rare due to the very limited amount of explosive catalyst available at this time, and have no additional effects currently.
