While I would be okay-ish with doing Chaos Bolt over CCC, I think it's important that we make some progress towards improving our mundane troops this turn. Improving the levies is a revision-tier action, so I'd rather not spend a design doing so- but I also don't want to show up to the first battle (next turn) with our starting militia. While we could do a militia revision next turn, doing it this turn lets us use the experience on designing some elite troops next turn (something like the Huscarls I proposed earlier, which were a Hard design). Right now, we have no bonuses to magical work, so doing magic and mundane things is equally difficult. In the future, when we have bonuses, we'll be better off working on magical things- better to upgrade our mundane forces now, so we don't have to worry about doing so when we'd rather be working on magic.
We already have some influence work done with the PTN, which is why I could give up on CCC. Although I would prefer SSS and CCC- the more we work on influence, the faster we get bonuses that make working on magic easier.

The reason I prefer this over CCC is because MoP's evaluation of CCC mentioned that since we haven't made any real contact yet it's somewhat sub-optimal. I would rather do it the turn after we make contact.

Proposal: Sworn (Sometimes) Swords
Difficulty: Hard
Result: (4+2)-1=5, Below Average

The Sworn (Sometimes) Swords is a complete overhaul of our militia forces, but is perhaps more of a lateral move than a step forward. The nature of our decentralized empire is embraced and each lord contributes their own forces in the manner they wish. Soldiers are armed with everything from swords to farming scythes, warhammers to wood axes. The only common denominator among all forces is the minimum requirements of a sling, a pouch of stones, and a melee weapon for their arms, and thick leather helmets and cuirasses for their armor. Some lords shell out extra, giving their soldiers some extra protection in the form of a shield or leg protection, but this is not the standard nor is it expected.

The Sworn (Sometimes) Swords are extremely flexible, and tend to be equipped to face most situations on the battlefield. Unit sizes are also larger than the much cheaper and more uniform militia, but the Sworn (Sometimes) Swords are still Common as they make both the Spearman Militia and Slinger Levy Obsolete - meaning technically there is a much greater number of slingers or (sometimes) swords on the field at once.


Proposal: Chaos Bolt
Difficulty: Normal
Result: 4+1=5, Below Average

Chaos Bolt is a low-accuracy, high-energy spell that fires a ball not unlike an Arcane Bolt at a target. The Chaos Bolt bursts on impact, imparting a minimal amount of force on the target but releasing a mind-fogging wave of arcane and Chaotic energy in a small area around it. The Chaos Bolt can cause confusion, disorientation, dizziness, and forgetfulness, but can be resisted to various degrees by targets with improved willpower, morale, or mental fortitude, and completely ignored by those with stronger magical aptitude. The Chaos Bolt is Common and can be cast by any spellcasting unit.

There is no combat this turn, but you will still be reaching out to make your first interplanar alliance! You can choose to make contact with the Air Plane and align yourselves with the Faeries or Avians as they work to change or maintain, respectively, the balance of political power, or you can contact the Water Plane and back either the Illithids or Lizardfolk as the Lizardfolk attempt to break their chains and the Illithids seek to tighten their grip. Any Influence-based designs you have will be automatically applied if applicable. Remember, once you choose a species to align yourselves with their rival will immediately contact the other team.

You are also finalizing your Island and Avatar this phase. This sentence was always here.

This was also always here: You're also supposed to choose which Plane your Trade Network is targeting for the next turn - either your home plane for a mundane bonus or the plane you're contacting this turn for a bonus for proposals related to that plane's magic.

I'd definitely like to do a Water species so we can hopefully get to the Order plane first, or at worst simultaneously- I really don't want to be stuck negotiating with a hivemind. I'd be fine with either Water species.

I've voted Fairies for a few reasons:
First, having magically-inclined allies is always good, and I like the idea of subverting a Senate. They both fly, and are both fragile, yet only one is magical. Done deal there in my opinion.
Second, I am lumping the Dwarves, Orcs and Lizardfolk into the same "heavy Infantry" category. If the Auran's give us either the Dwarves or Orcs this turn I would be more than happy to approach the Illithids next turn for another magical ally. If they don't, then I'd want to consider the Lizardfolk more, to guarantee we get one tough species template.

I've been convinced to switch by my belief that the PTN will be especially effective on the Chaos Plane (doubly especially with the Infernals) and Fire Plane, so there's merit in rushing them.
