Are Drunks and other Companions improving?
« on: April 22, 2008, 07:55:00 am »

Just wanted to ask if my drunks improve in wrestling (or other skills as well!) if they live long enough to gain some experience.

If they do, i'm really looking forward to creating an army of legendary drunkards.

They gain experience from fighting.

Proof is when you hire a retired hero, fight a bit, then unretire that hero.  Improved skills.

If only we could get them to shieldcrawl or zombiestrangle... Or let them hang out in the tavern and gain legendary conversational skills.

Actually, if you can find a zombie and "prep" it for him, he'll most likely start strangling it until he passes out.  No problem there.

It's also possible, although unlikely, that they can shieldcrawl.  They'd have to grab and remove an enemy's shield during combat, and then lose the ability to stand in some other fight against a weak foe.

And they will train armor user skill if they grab a useless object and start hitting stuff with it.  It's only one or two points per swing, but it still counts.

Yup, they certainly do improve. Slowly. If you want some noteworthy allies quickly, there are two good ways: retire one of your own characters and hire them, or use bartevelle's Dwarf Companion and boost a drunk's abilities. Possibly use Dwarf Companion to *find* the people you retired in a town. Man, that program is useful.

Yea I can confirm they gain skills.  I usually recruited 4 or 5 drunks at a time and try to stay near and protect as many as I can.  Back a few versions their title would even change from drunk to wrestler if they lived long enough.

I had an axeman lose his axe and later become an Elite Wrestler.
