Hypnotoad soothes all kinds of philosophical panics. Look into the eyes of salvation and all will be well!

Isn't nihilism supposed to be liberating in that any sort of meaning can be estranged from what you want or don't want to do with life? A canvas with no obligation to be filled, nor metric by its completion?

It's been too long since I've read my existentialists.

You start with encountering externally imposed meaning: society/tradition/morality/god doesn't want me to eat this doughnut 'cause it's naughty.
With nihilism you tear down all meaning: me eating or not eating this doughnut doesn't matter.
With existentialism you proceed to build your own meaning on the now free real estate brought about by nihilism: I'm deciding my existence will be all about eating doughnuts.
(protip: replace doughnuts with hot chicks' muffs if you're suave like Camus)

The tricky part is, the destruction bit is easy. Building one's own meaning is hard. So one can get stuck in depressing nihilistic denial.

I found Russian nihilism to be one of the more interesting and inspiring types of nihilism during my more nihilistic period. It's mostly associated with Nechayev, political revolution, anarchists (Bakunin admired Nechayev, iirc) and the assassination of Tsar Alexander II, though many (most?) Russian nihilists weren't political. Can't remember much about it (been ages since I read that kind of stuff), but it didn't see life as meaningless or reject all sorts of ethics/morality.

My philosophical panic is that I'm trying to eat pasta. I have a fork to the left and right of me, but they are shared with my neighbours, as is the case with everyone around the table.

It makes you think!

It just makes me remember you're perfectly able to eat pasta without silverware, tbh. Easier with a bowl, but still doable with a plate and you're entirely able to make that mess finger food if you're really hungry.

... not gon' lie, I can't remember the last time I ate pasta of any sort with a fork at all. It's been spoons for a long while now on that front.
