Well, I think Fenrir means that when you've only posted once, no one knows what kind of person you are (as much as you can tell online, anyhow). Some people exaggerate or fabricate what happened to their adventurer, the most awesome artifact name they've gotten, or what happened in their fortress to get attention. That kind of stuff.

You don't seem like one, but that is a little strange. You sure some other guy didn't shoot him? How exactly did this happen? I think units can't target themselves, but I could be wrong.

I actually have no idea.  I just saw that in the log, I didn't actually see him.
I didn't see any signs of there being a third party, but who knows?

Say, here's a thought. The game doesn't use a name for the guard until the end. It uses a profession name, so one guard could of killed another, or maybe one was a Goblin guard, somehow? Although I've never seen a Goblin Guard Migrant...

Edit: Oh, wait, hahah! Could he have shot a bolt straight up into the air? I never tried that before, but it would be hilarious if it came back down and killed him.

Being as it's currently impossible to hit friendly units with ranged weapons, I am given to assume that the same is true of oneself. You're probably just misinterpreting it. Looks to me like that bolt could have come from anywhere.
