I'm seeing dwarves sleeping on the floor instead of in their assigned bedrooms. I don't see anything obviously different about this fort, pathing to the beds is clear, distance doesn't seem too great (about 20x, 30z distance to their bedroom, so maybe a little more z than usual?) Can anyone suggest other factors that might have dwarves not returning home to sleep?

Do they have hunting enabled? If they do, try disabling it. Those with hunting turned on will sleep on floors or wherever.

They will also sleep on the floor if overly drunk or exhausted and they just can't get back to their beds in time. I had a project which required a lot of heavy stuff to be moved a long distance. They dorfs would arrive at the dropoff point and collapse on the ground to sleep. I had half a dozen of them sleeping on a rockpile at one point.

I tend to put a bed in each food storage area, without any room or assignment attached to it. My fort children sleep there, as I don't assign bedrooms until a dwarf grows to adulthood. But I often find an adult dwarf who has a bedroom to go to kipping on a spare bed next to a pot of amaranth beer or sewer brew.

Thisfox likes aquifers, olivine, Forgotten Beasts for their imagination, & dorfs for their stupidity. She prefers to consume gin & tonic. She absolutely detests Facebook.

Is there a burrow or civilian alert preventing them from going to their bedrooms?
Have they been exposed to some syndrome which causes drowsiness?

Nope, no hunting, fishing, or animal trapping labors enabled.

No active burrows/alerts, and no exposure to contaminants, also Therapist with cheats on doesn't report any medical issues, and nothing with dfhack either.

They will also sleep on the floor if overly drunk or exhausted and they just can't get back to their beds in time.

Hmm, that sounds very possible. There are some long hauling routes active right now. I'll try building some beds near the stockpiles that might be the cause. Thanks!

It's cases like this which make me wonder if it's worthwhile petitioning to allow beds to be placed in minecarts for mobile sleep units
