Well done, Basil. I think we need something small that can be piloted by a single person, but that has the life support capability to keep at least two people alive. Two prey total.

A small ship is probably our best bet, small, agile, and fast.

You have acquitted yourself well, Little King.
You have shown your strength to your elder.
Now is the time for you to take charge of your life.
Know that you are not fleeing as a frightened [prey animal],
But merely stepping away to grow in power and skill.
You will return, and when you do,
your siblings will fall before your might.
For now, you must take a ship, and quickly.
Make sure that it has a functional cryopod,
and either functional or easily repairable life support,
for the sake of your human ally.

A small ship will require less thrust,
and be easier to conceal from our family.
You will need to outrun any potential pursuers,
and the most efficient acceleration would be ideal.

Should we take the Perversion with us?

I'm not sure he'll be too helpful or have much relevant information in Empyreal space, and could cause problems with "the locals" (read: everyone). I don't think he has much combat skill (he's not the Herald after all). However he could still be useful and likely knows a lot about Plague context and galactic history.

We need to figure out how to phrase these qualities to the Perversion. Also I'm not sure prey implies the passengers, if "no doubt prey means human", since the Perversion wouldn't consider us one.

I think we should take the Perversion with us, I'm sure we can find a way for it to continue to be useful to our cause.

Bringing the Perversion along will substantially hinder any plans we may have of blending in with Humanity. Having a mass of tentacles and horror for a pet isn't a great way to make friends, no matter how well-trained the mass is.

Two. Low material. Cryopod and Lifesupport?

Error in parameter: minimum prey level is ten. Only Material? The Perversion responds.

Affirmative.

Adjusting results.

It responds with strings of raw data, that Basil takes a moment to translate into legible code.

Spoiler: Nearest (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Far (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Farther Still (click to show/hide)

It begins to follow Basil, as he sets off in one direction or the other.

I can't take you. Basil commands, You will hinder my plans of blending in.

It responds with data of pain. Flesh tore apart. Broken down. Pieces fed to others, before being twisted back into a shape for another service. It trembles in a strange way. More than its usual jittery twitches. With a rip of flesh, no simulacrum, it tears its torso-head open to reveal a pearl of a nexus. Electromagnetic forces in various spectrums twitch across it, gleaming and glimmering in the light.

...killme... An echo of humanity whimpers from it.

Basil turns his back on the creature --

Empathy

Empathy: from "ἐμπάθεια" (passion, partiality), itself from ἐν (in) + πάθος (passion, suffering.)

--It comes. 'Empathy. A strange mutation indeed'. Basil justifies with blunt retort.

Its flesh knits back together.

I will remake it, at some point, before we leave.Which vessel is best? The Farthest Still?

Ha! Well [said/struck.]

The two farthest are best, by my reckoning. The far vessel will draw attention, but you'd have an easier time of reaching it, and you could save some lives if you pull off the escape. The farthest is risky to reach, risky to break into... safest though, once you're inside.

I've no preference between the two. Elders?

I support choosing the far ship. If we have to trash it to get in, high defense will be of little use to us.

The far ship sounds like it might be our best bet.

I recommend the Far Ship, as the possibility of saving some of the crew is worth the risk of this "hunt" that is planned on it. Sloan should be able to help calm the crew down so they put up with us too. Having more hands on board the ship might be useful for keeping it spaceworthy.

[|]
The trip takes seventy-two hours in total. An arduous trek through empty halls, bloody glades and ivy ridden vessels. Basil, still in his Barker form, leads the way, followed close by Sloan and the twitching Perversion. The ration packs came in handy, allowing the outcast Prince and his party to make the trip without need to rest or forage. When Sloan tires, she sleeps upon Basil’s back. The two Plague beasts do not need rest. They continue to march.

There was no silence to break, and Sloan, far more relaxed than she was when chased, speaks up again on the subject that is heavy upon her mind. "I think we should name it Bob."

"Why Bob?" Basil questions, shooting a quizzical look over his shoulder at the lounging woman.

Sloan shrugs a shoulder. "S’Better than 'The Perversion'. I mean, why was it named that to begin with?"

"I've no idea." He admits, shooting a look at the entity in question.

[|]
The Perversion, in the last day, has proven its worth as a pack mule, if nothing else. It currently carries the remaining rations, respirators, and a set of las-rifles in its many twitch tentacles. All of which it scavenged from partially digested vessels on the path with only the mildest of nudging from Basil. It seems connected to an inventory of equipment, materials, and 'protein'. It blinks a quartet of eyes at the attention, trudging along behind the two silently.

"...probably better not to think about it." Sloan sniffs. "Bob's better."

Basil, finding himself unable to shrug in his Barker form, and with the woman reclining on his back, acknowledges with a simple, "Okay."

Basil, as they near the surface of the Blighted Glass, risks his Willpower only twice. Once, to assume the First Mask and once more to fix the body of the Perversion-- Bob. He takes his time to shape the twitching body into a near perfect simulacrum of a barker. The twitches are harder to fix. There's no response from below, no roar of answer, or questing willpower. And Basil, despite the control of his bodily functions, breathes a sigh of relief.

"What about Twitchy?" Basil asks Sloan, voice a tinny hiss through the respirator speaker.

"Works better than Bob, honest." Sloan nods, speaking through her own respirator.

Basil straps the rifle to his back and climbs the ladder upward, towards the open hatch. The planet stretches out beyond the half-melted hatchway. The hills and plains formed from sinuous red ivy and black plates. A heavy, grey fog sits at ankle level, coiling and twisting around the trunks of massive silver tentacles that stretch into the darkened sky. Heat pours off the ground, but the thin atmosphere is frigid, making Sloan shiver as soon as the party rises from the depths below.

Basil points.

The Vessel in question is a bright green blotch, jutting out from between two hills. Its sits lopsided on three struts, with a ladder and equipment elevator extended to the ivy below. The hydrogen reactor and engine are an obtuse, long block, terminating in a set of lights in the front and an exhaust bell in the back. The crew and control shuttle sits astride the engine, its cockpit, evidenced by clear 'windows' ends half-way up the engine block. From dead reckoning, it is sixty meters from maneuver lights to drive bell.

A tentacle wraps itself around the entire vessel, and ivy clogs the drive bell. The vessel was designed to enter atmosphere, with its landing struts and thruster blocks. The heavy shielding designed for atmosphere withstands the heavy pressure of the tentacle with minimal damage.

"There it is." Sloan murmurs. "What's the plan?"

Ten drudges and a herald approaching in thirty minutes. Advises Twitchy, with a twitch.

Fission can be better than fusion.  The thing with fusion is you need to create extreme conditions for it to happen.  With fission, you can create extreme materials and then actively prevent them from being destroyed, creating bombs that rely upon you actively preventing them from exploding.

You can eliminate pursuit by cutting off tiny bits of the self, and using them to prevent tiny amounts of fissile material from releasing their energy.  At the same time you can make mundane laser guns as intelligent turrets to attack with.

So the intelligent turrets attack, and when destroyed, explode, destroying anything in the vicinity around them.

This should buy you plenty of time to hijack the vessel.
