[15] vs [11]
“Who the fuck do you think you talking to?” Sloan lunges forward to grab Tom’s suit and drag him up over the table. Tom yelps, as her hand twists suit material and skin alike. Her other hand balls up. “If you ever fuckin’ talk like that to my ward again I’ll make you eat that fuckin’ stupid ‘stache. Got me?”

Tom nods his head empathically.

“Great!” Sloan drops him, “First things, Mac is Missing in Action. He jettisoned to engage a pirate vessel chasing us. Old Dogs like him don’t die easy, so we might meet again. Abigail’s pod malfunctioned. No foul play either way. Check the ship’s log and recording – later. We’ve got more importan’ stuff to worry at.”

“Ah…well – that makes me acting captain—”

“Yeah fuckin’ right.” Sloan cuts Tom off, leaning forward on the table. “Look to your left, then your right, now back at me. Everyone you see is alive cause of Basil spending years of life on your sorry Naval asses. You want out? First ship comes by, by all means, get your sorry asses on and skip your way home.”

“What abo-“

“Shut up! I’m not done here.” Sloan barks. “We need to scavenge this base for food and other resources. So get some real goddamn clothes on, and get to work. Or else take your chances with the elements outside. Work with us, and we’ll live. Don’t and I’ll chuck you out on your ass.”

The crew dips a nod, rising to their feet, understanding the situation and Sloan – all except Tom, who crosses his arms over his chest, his face a patchwork of red and mustache—

“I’m not consorting with a goddamn brat of pir—”

“The hell did I say!? Come ‘ere!” Sloan barks--

[12] vs [11]
Sloan lunges across the table before Basil can stop her. She grabs Tom and slams a fist into his mustachioed mouth. He yelps –

[12] vs [26]
Tom twists, and throws Sloan off him. She skids across the floor and grunts in pain as her back slams, hard, into a nearby cabinet. Staggering back to her feet, she takes another lunge towards Tom, grabbing for his neck--

[18] vs [10]
[27] vs [9]
Sloan grabs him by the throat and slams her knee into his groin, dragging him down into the blow. A strangled yelp emerges as Sloan begins to choke him, her muscles bulging.  He swings, catching Sloan with a glancing blow across the lips, but his struggle is in vain. Then, with a grunt, she slams his head into the table. He slumps, unconscious. She lets him go only to  grab a leg. She wordlessly drags him back to the cryopod bay and after some exertion, poses him into one of the pods. Her fingers dance over the pad, activating the machine.

“I ain’t taking shit from you motherfuckers, not after what my Basil did for you.” Sloan snarls as she stomps back into the dining room, looking over the stunned group. “Anyone else got a problem with listening to him?”

Silence, then, a chorus of “No, ma’am.”

“Then fuckin’ get dressed.” Sloan barks. The remaining crew scramble away. “I want you lot back here in ten minutes.”

Nine minutes later, the crews are arrayed in grey naval coveralls. They stand at attention in front of Basil and Sloan. She stalks down the line, eying them up and down, and then ticks her head to Basil. “My Lord will assign tasks. I’m going to go change.”

The Crew is left staring at Basil.

Tom, Myra: Explore the facility. Produce a map if possible. Report back immediately if you encounter anything dangerous.
TY-439768349: See if you can hunt down some of the rat-things we've seen in the facility, and then cook them as food.
Sonam: Check over the base's equipment, make sure it's in working order, and see if there's anything we would be able to salvage.

If Tom is currently occupied, maybe we can go with Myra to protect her and help her explore.

Might as well better than standing around and doing nothing like some type of middle manager or something.

Sounds like a good plan, I can't think of anything to add to it.

"Sonam, can you check out the base's equipment and see what is in working order? Anything we can salvage."

Sonam dips a nod, striding on her short legs, right out of the hall and the vessel.

"Tee-Yuh, there was some sort of animal, I would like you to hunt some and cook them."

TY lifts a hand in a salute and leaves. Without a weapon, Basil realizes, after they vanish from sight.

Myra shifts, nervous after Basil turns his gaze to her. "We're going to explore the base."

"Can I go back into the Pod, instead?" She questions, after a beat, in her stilted, clipped Empyreal, "You do not even need to beat me. I'll go peacefully."

"By all means?" Basil gestures broadly, his head ticking towards the pod. "I will not stop you."

"It was a joke." Myra sighs, "I'll gladly go into a dark, abandoned military base with some pirate weirdo. That won't end badly."

Basil blinks, "I'm not weird."

"And I'm paid enough for this." Myra retorts, "Are you going to change out of the pod suit?"

"Oh. Right. Yes." Basil nods.

Basil and Myra, equipped with chest mounted flashlights and las-pistols, wander down the dull concrete hallways. The floor is rusted through, grated tiles of rust collapsing beneath poorly placed steps. Basil leads the way, immune to tetanus as he is, a pipe in his hand to tap ahead. Mold spores and dust simmer in the light, drifting down from patches of crumbling concrete or great fungal growths. Myra wears a breathing mask against the organic intruders, but Basil, once again, immune to the hazard, does not.

"It doesn't really need a map." Myra murmurs, looking over at the wall. "It's a grid."

For the fourth time today, after walking down four different hallways, then backtracking, Basil emerges into the great stairwell that the fortress is arrayed around. Four service elevators are arrayed around the structure, but they are empty shafts that descend into the darkness below, where the carriages lay on the lowest level.

Myra sidles up behind Basil as he stares into that deep darkness. He can feel her muscles tense, her hands twitch upward. He waits until --

"Would you survive the fall?" She questions, exhaling softly.

"Yes." Basil nods, eying the depths, "Would you?"

Myra kicks a pebble of concrete down. It takes a long time for a clunk to echo upward.

"No. I don't think so." She admits, stepping away.

The stairs upward are buried in concrete debris, so they head, down, and deeper into the depths. Basil unlocks a few of the doors, peering into the rooms behind. Rotten cloth lays moldering upon the rusting bones of ancient steel bed. A cabinet, half-consumed by red and orange, lays upon its front, a door swung open to spill more moldy material on the ground.

"Officer quarters." Myra informs.

"Oh?"

"Only one bed. Specialists get a double-bunk, cadets are four to a rack." Her flashlight swings around. "Bet we'll find bunk-beds on the next level down."

Indeed, the next level down has double bunks filled with rotten mattresses. Myra nods, and starts down a hallway. It eventually open up into a broad chamber, speckled with shattered plastic and rusted tables. A cave in of concrete rubble hides half beneath the bulky boulders, but half of it is hidden behind waist-high tables with empty insets. Water pours from a broken pipe, draining somewhere into the depths beneath.

"Cafeteria." Myra nods, hopping over the serving tables. "One on each pole."

Basil follows, as she picks past the rubble and heads into a smaller room. "Have you been here before?"

"The Empyreal Navy uses the same design for millions of bases across the Galaxy. Same design for space stations." Myra explains, coming to a stop at an imposing door of shiny steel. "I've never been to a base that is designed otherwise.”

“I see.” Basil nods.

Myra braces herself, and pulls at the door’s handle with all her might. It doesn’t budge.

“Could you help?” She asks Basil, panting from the pointless exertion.

“Sure. Step aside.”

Basil rips the rusted door from its hinges with a single pull. A light flickers on in the walk-in fridge, revealing moldering food containers, the labels hidden by decades of decay. It drips to the floor, staining the stainless steel with black puddles of dried foulness. The air is cool, cooler than the ambient temperature of the rest of the tunnels. Myra ignores the shelves, making a beeline for another section of the walk-in, another door.

This one is in better repair, and it only takes Myra to prise this one open.

The freezer is coated in ice, long icicles trailing down from leaks in the ceiling. Myra slides past a wall of ice whose cascade covers a wall, and tugs a brown container from the rack. There is a hiss as she peels the container open. A creamy, brownish red solid is contained within, and she whoops with joy. Another is filled with a light green creamy solid, and she exclaims in joy again.

Basil, looking around, notices vacuum sealed bags filled with meats, meals, and various food items. He grabs armfuls the stuff, putting it into his backpack. Myra does the same, but makes sure to secure the creamy solids most of all.

“Come on,” She urges, shutting the door behind Basil and hurrying out the kitchen.

Myra is hailed as a hero by the crew as she returns to the dining room with the creamy solids. Spoons are distributed, and they sink them into the two mixes of cream and sugar. Half-melted spoonfuls disappear into hungry mouths. A spoon containing the red melting cream is offered to Basil, who, after some hesitation, takes a bite. It's sweet, mild, and nutty, with a hint of savory. The creaminess melts evenly and spreads over his tongue.

[|]
Sloan, after eating a few spoons herself, looks over the other two bags. She nods, packing the food away into the small fridge of The Saber. “Tee Yuh, didn’t find any rats, so this will be useful.”

TY frowns, and gives a wide shrug.

[|]
“I went over our supplies,” Sloan continues, “Organized it while you were gone. Made a list. If you want me to bore you with the details let me know, but we have enough for about seven months feeding the five of us. Not counting what might be in the other freezers down below. We got enough weapons, and Sonam took a look at the Base’s fusion plant.”

[|]
Sonam rises from the table to address Basil, after Sloan’s verbal prodding. What spews forth is verbal vomit, spoken in one long breathless sentence, “Uh…From what I could gather, the base has six hundred years of power remaining. There isn’t any fuel we can salvage -- the matrices are empty. The communication relay must be offline somewhere in the base, because I couldn’t connect. Um. That’s about all I got done today. Sorry.” She sits back down. ”If it’s okay with you, I’m intending to start working on the Auto-Doc in the ship, unless you want me to look at something else.

Dang this place has seen better days, I wonder if there are logs around that give an idea of what happened to the people who used to be here.

Also getting that autodoc thing going sounds like a important task and something that'll potentially be useful in future.

Yeah if we are going to stay here for an extended duration it's probably in our best interest to start actually fixing the place up a bit so it ain't a rusted deathtrap, continuing to explore the base is probably also a good idea could be emergency cryo pods around with actual people inside them I mean clearly people lived here at one point what happened to them?

Exploring and finding the comms room could be helpful. Not to transmit anything, which could give away our position, but just to listen for anything that could tell us about our neighbors. Once we find it, we could put someone on the comms and have them write down anything useful they hear.

Given how much we were getting shot at while trying to land here, making it known where we are is definitely a bad idea.

Also we at some point need to figure out how we're gonna get out of here since the ship we arrived in is pretty much dead right now.

I agree, but no one should be able to locate us as long as we don't transmit anything. Just listening to broadcasts shouldn't expose our location, though I would understand if we were to avoid it out of an abundance of caution.

I meant to say that just listing for now was a good idea but I apparently forgot to say it, I probably should reread these things before I post them to make sure I didn't miss something important.
