Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The goblins in question have arrived at the northwest of the fort area. The vast majority of our population is already in the fortress, with only a few hunters and fishermen around the entrance who can surely get in when the alarm is sounded.

There's only one dwarf far enough out to be in real danger from the goblins before getting to the gate, and guess who that is?

Mayor Momuz.

I think he can make it, though, so we'll leave the gate open.

2nd Limestone: He's in.

CLOSE THE GATE!

The goblins meanwhile have murdered a yak and a guineafowl.

Ugh, I'm getting cancellation spam...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This must be because I forgot to add part of the fort to the indoors burrow again.

You know what, I'm dropping the alert. There shouldn't be any way for people to get outdoors anyway.

5th Limestone: The goblins seem content to continue murdering our animals. This gives me an opportunity to make... other preparations.

11th Limestone: The goblins have begun to start chasing and killing the animals outside our door. Sad, but I don't want to take the risk to rescue them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

12th Limestone: Alright, what the fuck is going on.

We have stocks and stock full of food. Why is nobody eating it?

16th Limestone: I don't understand. The food is right there. I made a food stockpile outside the dining hall, maybe that will fix i-

17th Limestone: The goblin is chasing some dwarves down the sky bridge.

The main stairwell, which SHOULD be up/down stairs, is not in fact up/down stairs. It is only down stairs. The bedrooms, skybridge, and farming section are completely cut off from the rest of the fort, and have been for months now. That explains the starving dwarves. Only those of us lucky enough to be trapped in the upper section had access to the food.

:o

That's a new design feature, one I certainly didn't make.

It definitely wasn't like that from the start, as if down stairs were mined to begin with, the miner wouldn't be able to construct all the bedrooms. Some later overseer must have knocked out the up stairs, cutting the fort in half. I demand an investigation of this and I swear that whoever is responsible will be subject to the atom-guillotine!

I mean, after we deal with the goblin wrestler. I still have no idea how it got in. The farm areas are completely sealed. I hope goblins haven't mastered the power of teleportation.

17th Limestone: I have ordered that the correct stairs be built.

The dwarves trapped on the skybridge are still in danger from the goblin. I hope they can jump down from the down stair. The military is waiting at the bottom and can certainly take on one wrestler.

The goblin is chasing miner Ingish.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It appears Ingish has a slight advantage in terms of speed, and is getting away.

The goblin is now going after another comrade - coincidentally also named Ingish. Unfortunately, the other dwarves have fled to the side with no exit.

I will have the miner knock open this wall to give them a better chance.

Ingish has fallen. The goblin is standing there. It seems like she hasn't seen the other dwarves.

The stair isn't getting built.

Several dwarves have been cornered in the reactor chamber.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Meanwhile, the stair isn't built. Everyone is off getting drunk!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fine, I'll have miners dig a new stair.

That is done, thank Armok.

The military marches out, followed by most of the fort in search of food.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Military's found the goblin.

It's over in seconds.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hammerdwarf Libash Idenostar gets the kill. She's clearly unused to military life, but her boldness is commended.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Meng Duthaludil fell into the reactor during the fight.

I've ordered the reactor emergency drain lever pulled. I pray I'm not too late.

The fort at last can eat.

Urist Atirrovod has arrived to pull the lever.

The reactor begins to drain.

We were too slow.

The useless louts in the main hall have finally begun building the stairs.

However this goblin got in, it doesn't appear that more are following, but I don't want to take any chances. There are only six goblins left, none of them armed. I've ordered the Keys of Carnage to prepare for a sally.

The men are ready.

The gate is lowered!

Swift retribution is dealt.

Up the hill they go.

And just like that, the siege is ended.

What is the point of a stair case that can only be used to go down anyway?

2nd Sandstone: Dwarves rush into the sunshine, most of them looking to bring wood to the wood stockpiles now that they're actually accessible. Meanwhile, more migrants have arrived.

In an effort to train our masonry, I have ordered the entirety of the first mining level smoothed.

18th Sandstone: It's glorious.

4th timber: Behold!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here in Runlance, every dorf has work! Gone are the perils of unemployment! All joyously contribute to the community! Some are not yet called comrades. I will fix this.

6th Timber:

Excellent! This reminds me: I should start making guild halls for the other guilds.

Also, the bedroom wing has been mined out. Time to smooth it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We're also making beds, but ran out of wood some time ago, and thus are cutting more trees.

11th Timber:

Aptly named, too.

14th Timber: Work continues on the housing level.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

19th Timber: The water reactor has finally drained so that Meng's remains can be retrieved. I'm constructing an access system to get down there. I hope the water doesn't shoot out.

24th Timber: I've realized that I set the smoothening of the bedrooms to priority 3, meaning that almost no mining was getting done, because all the miners are smoothing. I set it to 5...

This is getting old.

3rd Moonstone: While here, the necromancers managed to resurrect a ram skeleton.

Greetings, Comrades! I am Blueturtle II! Blueturtle I has been sent to gulag!

Ahhhhh all that labor enabling. I intentionally have dorfs with specific weapon preferences dabbling weaponsmith and had them do non moodable labors to increase chances of an epic artifact...
Also to re-prime the reactor you need to close the drain and then refill it. If it doesn't start when mostly full try opening the drain for a little bit. It should hopefully just start spinning again.
Might be worth it to make a swimatorium and add escape ramps for he dorfs who fall in.

Have you used any of the irrigated spot yet?

I'm honestly wondering about the benefits and drawbacks of socializing stuff. The drawback, obviously, is that you don't get Legendaries as quickly because the XP is distributed among hundreds of dwarves. The benefit is that you can do big things fast because there's so many dwarves. Although I honestly think the dabbling miners aren't doing much, the legendaries mine basically instantly.

And then the further drawback is that the entire fort is doing whatever has the highest priority.

Also to re-prime the reactor you need to close the drain and then refill it. If it doesn't start when mostly full try opening the drain for a little bit. It should hopefully just start spinning again.

Yeah, I should add a escape ramp. Don't think that would have saved Meng though. I think he didn't know how to swim.

Honestly, the mistake was letting a goblin get into the reactor room.

Have you used any of the irrigated spot yet?

We have hundreds of plump helmets and almost no spawn, so I'm waiting for people to eat them first. However, now that I say that, I realize that a lot more people are going to be eating them now that I've reconnected the other half of the fort. Shoot.

10th Obsidian: I finally remembered to start planting things in the underground farm.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Looks like some of the mud has dried up. There should still be enough for our use, but we may want to re-irrigate at some point.

Gulag efficiency is suffering because the gulagees (currently only Blue 1) have to have stone carried to them to be productive. I wonder if I should include the stone stockpile in the gulag as well, or maybe add a mine.

Speaking of which:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Honestly, the gulag is less of a punishment than you'd expect.

20th Obsidian: Ordering 100 doors was a bad idea. I've cancelled the 13 that remain.

1st Granite: Alright, it appears that my term is up. (Yes, we do have term limits here. This isn't China.)

I may as well reveal what I've been working on so far.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is a water-based superweapon consisting of a large chamber hollowed out into the cliff and two outlet pipes. When the lever is pulled, the bridges open, and the resulting deluge of water will hopefully sweep away or drown any attacking armies. Since it fires larger payloads than a Failcannon, I shall term this the Losemortar. (Especially because firing it is going to cause someone to lose, either us or them.)

The weapon itself is finished, I just have no way to fill it. Filling it by hand is pitifully slow:

I've begun work on a pump stack, but I'm waiting on the giant corkscrews and pipe segments. The water will be drawn from the same plumbing as the reactor:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Steps remaining to activate it:

  • Wait for that door to get built, then mine out the damp stone behind it.
  • Hook the door up to a lever and open it remotely.
  • Once the corkscrews and pipes are done, put in the screw pumps.
  • Restart the water reactor (I didn't get around to restarting it).
  • Connect the reactor to the pump stack and the pump stack to a lever.
  • Make sure the outlet bridges are closed, activate the pump stack.
  • Pull the trigger and enjoy! Make sure everyone is inside first

I ended up putting the library here, but it still needs tables and paper. I think we have pig tails, but you'll have to press them, and also designate this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Likewise, these small rooms were intended for use as guild halls, but I haven't designated them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Status at end:

The honorable Comrade Gwolfski shall now succeed me. Here is the save. Forward, comrades! There are bright days ahead! Long live the Revolution!

The four small southward things coming off of the main pipe were meant to be easy ways for people to get water to their projects, they even have meticulously labeled levers in the control room.
