With the round man barely in front, and competition from behind getting fierce, it seems that Jack's good luck could be about to run out. The back pack would soon ram into the front one and likely overwhelm both icecream and beard.
For some reason, that's not what's on Jack's mind!

Having lost his speed, Olaf sees little to lose by stopping.  This shield came with him all the way from Valhalla!  He'll never find another one like it, and has to take care of it.  And he's alone, not having his fellow Vikings with him.

Meanwhile, in a well lit Mushroom Kingdom tavern, another Lost Viking (known as The Fierce) watches the latest MKL race on Star-vision while sipping his viking cola-it seems the entire tavern is also full of various mushroom denizens drinking it, and a small pile of gold coins on his table grows steadily larger. He's passing the time throwing short swords into a nearby bullseye on the wall.

"...I wonder who that big speedy scooty guy is? He looks kinda' familiar! Ah well, never mind-I'm on a roll! Five swords-eyes in a row! Freya would be impressed!"

*thunk!*

Olaf hears the thunder overhead and quickly pulls into the dock before his longshieldboatkart sinks underneath the waves!

He's expecting an empty pit space with nothing but some toads confused about how a shield/kart/boat works. He's surprised to see Erik (Known as the Swift), the most diminutive viking of the trio, standing with his arms crossed.

"Fancy meeting you here, Olaf! Oh right, ya didn't invite me! I had to travel across this entire Mushroom Crazy Land by myself, just to find ya! I must have ran away from a hundred sorts of monsters, and most of them were giant vegetables! And what have you done to my precious longboat! You've turned it into some sort of crazy kart-o-mobile! At least one portion of our currently lost longboat! And what are those marks on the side? It looks you've been bitten by bunch of giant turtles!"

Erik being the teams navigator does explain a whole lot...though he was also the only one who could keep the ship afloat.

Erik continues to work on Olafs repair work, and as usual, he can't stop talking.

"...what's a family of mice wearing sunglasses doing in here, and why do they have little wrenches? Never mind! Shoo, shoo! Ow! One of them poked me with a tiny knife! Skadedyr!"

Nevertheless, Olaf watches was his rocket-wind-gauge goes from a depressing dull red to a pleasing light green.

Cold Start Hiccup Fixed!

"...Yer about good to go now I fixed your rokket so we can launch you out of here! Oh, we can also swap that shield out if you like for different gear, but I know you're sort of attached to it..."

He watches the track nearby as Purple Fella bounce, scramble, and wreck his way down the track. He supposes he'll still have to make up ground...

Olaf heals his hiccup and begins the next section in red, having fallen into 5th! Prepare next turn to ROCKET START!

Jack is off Track!

Jack, feeling some combination of heroism, desperation, or merely whimsical desire to rebel decides to set his Kart on a collision course with the huge chomp cage! Even as Jack hits the dash panel and the thunder strikes down and shrinks them, he aims his kart to knock the 'load bearing' lakitu off balance!

Zapped! -2 to hazard, driving, and pass checks until the end of the next turn!
Shrunk! -1 to all ram checks!
*POW!*

Jack lands right on the cloud, sending a surprised Lakitu operator into a nose dive for the water! He loses hold of the wire he was holding and the entire cage contraption begins a slow spinning tumble into the river-after a few moments, the remaining Lakitu disengage their own wires and flee to the skies.

Jack Frost finds his now tiny, shrunken kart (and his tiny, shrunken self) now sharing a cloud with a panicking driver! He notices that while the cloud-vehicle isn't much bigger than his kart normally would be, there's some sort of ladder in the rear that leads down to another section, even if this shouldn't be possible. It actually seems larger on the inside than it could possibly be on the outside! Of course, Jack is used to weird geometry, so it's not really much for him to wrap his head around.


"I've lost power to cloud-engines! Mayday! Mayday! Requesting assistance!" The Lakitu yells-his cloud seems to be very slowly drifting downwards into the river, which makes his panic seem a bit humorous. Unless there's something in the water Jack doesn't know about...

Without much preamble, the track Lakitu abruptly abandons his vehicle (hopping out at about 12 feet) and jumps over the side-he activates a parachute (said parachute is three tiny smiling clouds), needlessly, and begins to float off course. Hopefully he won't (or will!) land in the drink! Jack has been a bit, well, stunned for all of this. But now he realizes he's got to do something!

If he can grab the strange unrecognizable controls, he might be able to steer this thing back on track, maybe even gain a slight advantage. While he's in this shrunken state, his karts weight isn't even an issue-thank Cranky!

Or he can 'abandon cloud' and try to get back on the track.

He figures the former option will boost him into the purple segment and maybe let him pass that wily monkey, while the former choice will set him safely down in Red in a sort of racing condition, but behind everybody else. Of course if he falls into the water by crashing this stupid cloud, he'll be both in red AND behind everybody else...he's pretty sure the fishin' Lakitus won't be in a hurry to rescue him as well...he feels the shrinking spell won't last forever, anyway. Better choose fast!

Without the distraction of his young simian great-grandson and his young simian girlfriend, Cranky Kong is able to focus his entire attention and extensive (though likely fictitious) experience on his Kart and the racetrack, and the results show! Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end...

Though Cranky's charge has put him in good position, he can see that the leaders have already started the final lap! It's time to close the gap- Cranky invokes the powerful Thunderbolt and takes the shortcut, hoping to sail through the tempest to victory!

Cranky bumps the Thunderbolt button with his bony knee (this amuses him) and heads his kart to the abyss! With a jump and a flutter, he grabs hold of the Green Cheep and lets its pesky flapping get him airborne! The size of his kart (and himself) are a lot less of an issue then with Olaf, especially with his speed. He clears the gap with a thump, sending stray nails and planks flying!

-1 momentum! (now 3)

Cranky wastes no time hitting the straight and burning his way up the track! From the back to the front, he's peeled the whole banana! He can see drivers ahead and behind of him wailing and flailing, all of them turning into tiny pipsqueaks-so small even diddy could beat them up.

He's not sure what that Little Icecream Man is doing, though-he has no idea where the fellow went after apparently performing some sort of banzai attack. All that matters is now that the track Lakitu are in chaos, their huge cage is slowly sinking into the river like DK's Riverboat, after it hit an aquatic KreMine in the war...and Chompy is definitely not going to be wrangled in time! He'll have to be careful if he doesn't want to get bit again...

He notices with annoyance, he's somehow not technically in the lead. The racing position markers on the board in 1st and 2nd looks like a spinning top with his face on one end and Jacks on the other. Boiling bananas...he half expects that fella to come out of nowhere.

Hey, what's golden thing streaking toward him like an oddly harmonic missile? Karate Joe is shooting up the ranks like...a STAR!

Pop the shortcut now straight into the pit stop! Fix this blasted death rattle before it becomes way worse

At this point, Crank is a bit more worried about a Deathrattle then winning the race-wins and losses come and go, but a wrecked Kart can end a promising career...or kill one one that's trying to come back. His kart hits the dry, muddy 'slide' (now grooved with several racers wheels) and...

The lightning that blasts him mid-jump is, as usual, incredibly disconcerting. He can feel the unpleasant squeezing as his body shrinks down to small fry size. The mini-gloomba finds an unexpected side effect, however-his decreased weight means the Red Cheep he's carried for so long and through so much (Bye, little buddy!)can carry him a lot further than he would have been able to go normally-he actually gains height, and nearly flutters right into the pit stop before releasing the tired Red Cheep-who bounces back into the water pit, looking somewhat grim.

The warmth of the pit-and his crew-descending on him with all sorts of TLC for him and his kart is one of the best feelings a racer can have. As well as returning to normal size, that's good too.

He notices Olaf ahead of him, arguing with what looks like a smaller, grumpier Olaf. Oh no, are there more than one of them?

And also Waluigi, bumbling about as usual. He'll have to pass that one. He and Olafs position are only a ceremony, as they'll both rocket start out of the pits to determine who cuts ahead. Even with his karts damage, he's got a decided advantage there.

He notices a golden blur go by that looks like Karate Joe. Well, it seems he won't be taking home 1st place today.

Deathrattle Hiccup Fixed!
Crank begins the next section in red, having fallen into 6th! Prepare to ROCKET START! (Even if there's no reason for you to do so!)

Waluigi sighs his torture finally over

Waluigi grabs his Green Cheep snugly as he prepares to follow the Gloomba-unlike Crank, however, he disregards the pit stop! It's possible he doesn't even HAVE a pit crew! Who needs em? They're lousy! Waaaa!

His flutter jump is well performed as his battered kart can handle-the thunderbolt hits him with much the same effect, as his smaller size (Lil' Waluigi can only speak in size 3 text without capital letters-waaaaaa!) helps him clear the jump without losing momentum! But now he's got to get his puny kart all the way way down the track! What was once a single segment is now roughly the length of the entire race course!

Waluigi tiny-rides down the track, dodging now Giant Red Cheeps-one of them suddenly jumps towards his kart and nibbles on it, carrying him over the side in its mouth!

Thankfully his emergency teleporter kicks in before he becomes cheep food (even if it doesn't, apparently, do anything about his size issues) and sends him back to the red segment track with a bit of lead. Eh, worth it! There's a golden blur receding in the distance, but he supposes it was nothing important.

Ugh, what's that smell? He thinks the cheep cheep may have slimed his kart...

Waluigi improbably rides into 3rd!

Bowser doesn't really care about anything but the finish line-he can see a glowing door right on the finish! One his key will unlock!

Phanto closes in relentlessly as he flutters over the gap, Cheep straining to carry the Koopa King (thankfully he grabbed a big one!)...he can only watch as Grey face turns Gold Face and streaks off with the power of the Super Star. Well, at least he's not in front of that!

He hits the other side of the finish line a moment later...to everyone else, all they saw was Bowser hit the finish line and then a split second later come out looking slightly different-like a sheen of water ran over him-his kart was running at the speed he'd started at, cleared of all damage, and he wasn't suffering from the thunderbolts curse. Phanto was nowhere to be seen.

He still held a key, and now he had something else in his claws...

Bowser has earned something cool-but for now, continue the race-Bowser begins next turn in red segment!

Waluigi can only puny rage that his tiny kart can't pull ahead in his shrunken state. Hahaha, he's small!

Jack Frost has no chance to pull ahead or fall back, because he is no longer on the track!

Joe tires of this race. He will win now.
