...  Also, I'm trying to figure out how Waluigi ended up in front of Olaf.  Didn't Olaf just stall out in the same way?

Nah, there's both Stalls (pass to next segment at the front of the current pack-usually a result of failing a low risk shortcut) and Delays (move on to the next segment at the back of the pack-can be a pit stop or a moderate risk shortcut)

Waluigi stalled in the shortcut, you delayed in the pits.

If anything Bowser should have be in front too, but he's got a special case-pretty much a 'pit stop'...of sorts.

Nah, if Olaf Delayed in the pits, he'd be doing Purple right now, but that rule wasn't in effect when he pitted.  This situation won't happen with the new rule.  It's correct as they were before that rule change, where Olaf fell back into a rocket start, leaving him in red again with a rocket start's worth of momentum, and behind Waluigi, as the Stall moved Waluigi into Red at the front of the pack.

I was just pointing it out that it was illogical, but the new changes won't allow for that to happen again.

Okay, for real this time, illegal shenanigans

Spoiler: The Nefarious Store (click to show/hide)

The suspicion gain mechanics on several of those is pretty rough and thoughtless, and I didn't even bother with a couple there, so that part definitely needs review/revision before potential implementation. I was also going to include some notes on mods that specifically play with Course hazards/gimmicks, but I'm sleepy, so I'm outies.

Aww, I thought Red gave a +1 to powerslides, but I missed that.

I mean, it doesn't really make a difference, a 1 would have been a loss of speed on agressive driving too.  Defensive might have saved the pass check, but I don't know.

Would drafting have given Olaf a pass check first?  Not that it would have worked with a 1, but would it have avoided losing momentum?

...also, I don't think a track section description should say anything about powerslides if it gives neither a bonus nor a penalty.

Drafting always gives you a free pass check, regardless of momentum, and you don't lose momentum on a success. It's very good when you've built up speed enough to get the bonus as well.

Not much doing rolling a 1. even with a bonus. Aggressive driving would have still cost you.

Defensive wouldn't have helped either, nor would succeeding, since Crank flattened you 10 vs 4. That or a Draft check would have saved you from losing momentum tho, since those aren't racing checks.

Dems the breaks!

A 4 on the pass check, eh?  That'd be a 0, right, given the +3 for momentum and the +1 for powersliding?

No, it'd be a one, I missed the part about not getting the pass check bonus if you don't get a 4+ on the check.  Ugh.  I thought you got that regardless.

Tough luck, Buck.

Olaf [1+3] vs Crank [4+6]

Remember dash pad bonuses too.

Dash pads give a bonus to passing, too?  I thought they just gave +1 momentum.

Pass rolls are always modified by your current Momentum.

...also, I don't think a track section description should say anything about powerslides if it gives neither a bonus nor a penalty.

That's an artifact of how I wrote the rules originally. If you look at the Powerslide action itself in the rules text, it says it is made at -1, then gives examples of where that penalty might be offset or replaced with a bonus. I wanted it to be clear that it was a more situational action (since modifiers are quite significant in a 1d6 situation where "natural" results don't matter,) and to consult the track segment for details. Then I think I just wound up calling out what the bonus was in each segment even if it was the normal -1, just for convenience. Luigi's Circuit/Waterway is of course unusual in that no segment has the -1, but that's a quirk of the course, not the rules.

I'm not sure if you'd want to have it work this way in game, but being off-track would normally lead to being picked up by a Lakitu, which seems to be analogous to taking Airborne damage.
