”Wait wait you’re a what now? What’s with all these “types” you’re listing off? Did you say you were a ghost? Just what exactly are you supposed to be?”

((Likewise this is the first Pokémon Bowser would have ever seen, at least to my memory))
Oh, Rotom is what the humans from where I’m from call me. Types are just how they classify us and it determines the moves we can learn. I’m a ghost that can possess electric objects. You look solid as you are, I don’t think you need to possess anything, what’s it like being solid?

rythm? This isn’t a poetry class or a music place
"The latter I agree with, not a place of music. Will be hard to enter Flow, but I like a challenge."

Flow? Where’s that? Sounds like you’ll need to surf or dive to get to it

"Maybe I will invite you, to my world. Then you'll feel the Flow, you will see. Everything has a rhythm, in my world. It gives us great power, I guarantee."

Him speaking in a rhythmic tone became more and more notable as time passes on.

A breaking MKL news update! We've finally solved the mystery of the 'Ghost Kart' that was reportedly driving itself around town, and...

We're happy to report that it is not the Ghost of King Harkinian come back for revenge!

*Both Lakitus seem visibly unnerved by the prospect*

...It is in fact, our 8th and final racer!

Take a guess, Jim! Who's that pokemon?

Looks like a lawnmower to me, Bob!

It's ROTOM! This rare pokemon has a plasma body, and is both electric and ghost type-but it can alter its type based on the object it possessing-you could even call it a ghost in the machine! It has the capability to enter and control almost any electrical device. The pokedex also says its something of a prankster, but you know these things tend to exaggerate!

So it can inhabit my lawnmower and finish my yard, Bob?

This Rotom prefers Karts! You can't do much yard work in those-and while this hardly our first kart racing pokemon, this is definitely the first rookie who is the kart.

Welcome to the league Rotom! Also-rule of thumb, get your pokemon passport-badge before some trainer snatches you up! It denotes you as a guest of the Mushroom Kingdom and offers not only legal rights as a Kingdom visitor, but provides electronic protection against capture by most forms of pokeballs. In essence, recognizing you as a pokemon owned by a trainer which is also yourself.

How needlessly complex! MKL helped institute that law after a karter caught the pokemon in first place to win a cup.

A truly shameful display, even if technically legal!

Did you say technically legal, Jim? Here's a word from one of sponsors who knows all about technical legality-Team Flare!

...

Another sneak peek at the Mushroom Season!

As every MKL fan nows, every season has four races, and begins with the Underdog Open-a race for rookies to earn their stripes. These tracks are denoted by the yellow boxes, and are in general the least difficult of courses, which a good mix of racing sections and easy to navigate hazards. This year begins in the placid Luigi's Waterway, but other seasons may begin at a different point!

The next race is the Comeback Open, as indicated by the red boxes-a race where those who have gone the longest without racing can take another shot at glory. In our opening season this will preferably be 8 new drivers, pending applications! Our comeback open may take place in the gooey rough and tumble of Choco Land, or...

The third race is where things heat up-the orange boxes are Crown Invitational races, inviting only the most famous drivers. High Risks abound! This year, we may visit the Torpedo Ted riddled hulk of Daisy Cruiser in a wild undersea race to wash off the mud of Choco Land!

The finale cup race this season takes place in the stony, sweltering Thwomp Ruins!

But now those question marks have you wondering! MKL is experimenting with exciting new courses all the time, but the best courses are those that remain unseen until revealed-as an additional reward for a 1st place win, the winning driver can choose a future course! These courses will be revealed only after the completion of the race-in some cases, they may even be designed to take place in a universe of the winning racers origin.

Winner of the Underdog Open: Choose from two Comeback Open tracks
Winner of the Comeback Open: Choose from two Crown Invitational tracks
Winner of the Crown Invitational: Choose one of four tracks for next seasons Underdog Open

We begin our league in the waning summer of Mushroom Kingdoms hottest year! But next season will take place in the fall-some tracks, if revisited, will change depending on the season! The next cup will be the Leaf cup, followed by the grandest of them all to close out the year-the Star Cup. We hope to see you there!

MKL forever!

Take the Pokémon passport badge to prevent capture, then get to the starting line

Race is started!

I'll be sending out PM's unless you guys beat me to the track.

For this initial turn and at least for a few days, we'll chill on the 24 hour time limit for actions, as I'll be a bit busy. Get out there, racers!

I'll fill in the rules on stunts in the next segment. Think hazards, but more flashy!

Btw I posted this all in a bit of a rush to get it out before a big job interview.

Before we begin is there any changes you guys want to make to your karts? Either purchases, trades, or uninstalling modules?

Alright guys!

Some stuff.

I set up a discord server-very barebones, but it's going to be a general chat location, a place for RP, and I'll store my dice rolls here. I'll also probably put up notes and things I'm working on. TBH I expect I might be the only one who uses it lol but everyone is welcome

I will also allow racing actions to be submitted here. I'll bounce actions submitted back to bay12 with whatever fluff you provided so people who are not on discord can still see. It comes with the downside that it'll be somewhat more difficult to take back and edit your actions, and you lose a bit of fine tuned control over your posting order (which has its own meta strategy). But if you're a hurry I'll handle it as best as I can.

Second, I was acting drunk introducing stunt rules without any preamble. The OP will be modified. Catching cheep cheeps will just be a racing check without modifiers. I might work on them later, but yeah, you guys may have noticed your RM (Racing Master?  :P ) gets a little...excitable at times. Mechanical stuff has always been a weakness of mine. I hope you can forgive me!

I forgive you. I’m fine with stunts being a racing check, it means less difficulty for you when running the game

Gloomba Grotto is still available to use if you are looking for more courses.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's just the original design and notes, and the track map has been lost to time.  I should probably review and retool it to account for updated rules, though.

Yeah, I recovered as many maps as I could find lol

Since otherwise we have to use mine...

It's a common misconception that choco island is entirely edible. Any chocolate miner worth his sugar will tell you the surface, exposed to the elements, is made of chocolate that has become so hardened it's indistinguishable from soft clay-a crumbly, dry surface that makes for exciting kart racers, but not much else. High heat conditions occasionally melt portions of the land, however, causing rich liquid chocolate veins to erupt to the surface-producing a gooey chocolate mud that the area is well known for, sending both miners seeking riches and the local dino-rhinos to feed, usually on the miners.

Wild Piranha plants also abound in choco-land, as they are one of the few forms of plant life who have deep enough roots to reach the rich liquid that runs underneath, and the teeth with which to supplement their diet in the dry months.

And now a word from our sponsors...

Viking Cola- 1 Coin
CEO:  Baelog T. Fierce
Industry: Beverage (Singular)
No one knows where the wily, spry viking Baelog fell from.  Coinless and with only a battered sword to his name, he marched into the nearest inn and demanded an ale-unfortunately alcohol is not often served in the Mushroom Kingdom! Having been denied, he ordered a specialty drink, requesting a multitude of odd ingredients-his recipe for what he called 'viking cola'. This proved amazingly popular with the inn, who offered to sell him a cut of all proceeds to serve it. Indeed, the inn had to sell ten drinks before he could actually drink one himself. His tentative entry into MKL just barely meets the monetary requirements, but he's hoping to cash in on a solid win to expand. His lack of coin means any endorsements will be fairly one sided unless the driver has some fame-then it's all but a lock on whoever asks first.

Nookingtons Multidimensional-  10 Coin
CEO: Crocodile CEO
Industry: Conglomerate
Tom Nook was once a simple shifty racoon in a backwater pawn shop-after a successful run in MLK, he now he runs shifty franchises all over the multiverse! It almost goes without saying the company is interested in sponsoring another racer...it went so well last time! Their previous successes have made them canny in choosing a racer, and they will likely demand proven performance before investing in another 'golden gloomba'.

Burger-Kun - 6 Coin
CEO: Haru Okumura
Industry: Food
Child of a fast food company from Personaverse Earth known as Big-Bang Burger, Haru Okumura has ported her families brand to the Mushroom Kingdom in the form of its most famous mascot, BURGER-KUN! The celestial themed menu proved to be quite popular, and her efforts to improve labor laws across the Kingdom has been fairly well received. It's said Burger-Kun is looking for a good hearted driver who can appeal to just about everyone, like its young CEO.

Kremkroc Industries-16 Coin
CEO: Boss Kash-in
Industry: Supplies Manufacturing/Steel Producer
A heavy sponsor of MKL's rejuvenation, Kremkroc industries has only grown in recent years with the discovery of an ultra-cheap, ultra-light metal known as Krocanium. As an industrial supplies manufacturer, Kremkroc primarily advertises to other industries and business, and not the common consumer-indeed, they go out of their way not to be associated with them. Their efforts to loosen labor laws across the Kingdom have been poorly received. Flush with coin and throwing their weight around, Boss Kash-in is looking to buy as many racers as possible.

Extreme Orange-4 Coin
CEO: Princess Daisy
Industry: Food (Beverages)
A small beverage brand across the multiverse, Extreme Orange is a rapidly growing product line, now fueling MKL! Princess Daisy has rebranded her classic Princess Orange as 'D-Fuel', now catering to hardcore extreme athletes with bad boy and bad girl attitudes. Her company goes out of its way to appeal to the 'I don't need no education to go fast' crowd, and denies any actual science went into making their drinks. Princess Daisy is claiming to look for a racer who can manage strong appeal to her customer base of X-treme fuel addicts.

Boomerang Bros Interdimensional Airlines-6 Coin
CEOs: Boomerang CE-Bro's
Industry: Travel
A provider of flights around the mushroom kingdom, they recently expanded to include other realities as well-the possibilities are nearly limitless if they can obtain enough coin to outbid their heated rivals for vital control of the Star-Portals which provide stable travel to other realms. Rumor is they're looking for to gamble on a longshot racer who can take home this years cup.
