"A pleasure to meet you, ma'am. I can't imagine what these bandits are thinking, coming for this village when someone like yourself lives here. I don't suppose you're up for a bit of exercise with the leftovers?"

"I wouldn't be opposed to it." Amara said coyly, "Though I have to warn you,. I'm a little rusty." She laughed at her own joke, knowing full well that rust wasn't stopping her from laying waste to the vagabonds that threatened her home.

She continued more seriously, "These are just scouts, not the real threat. They'll have set up a camp nearby, across the border where the nobles won't root them out. I've taken up arms again, so I can't just stand by and let them be. I'd like to ask for your help, milady, if it's not too much trouble."

”If this is you covered in rust, then I’d hate to fight you once it’s polished off.”" Astrid replied. ”Of course we’ll help. I have another duty at the moment, but Hagen- I mean, Lord Albin isn’t the kind of man to let them have the run of the place.”

Still seeping with adrenaline and sweat, Amara approached Hagen. "'Scuse me milord, do you have a moment?" she asked, "I'd like to speak with you about these bandits."

Although her request was serious, she seemed to be in good spirits. With how long she had been off the battlefield, it felt good to flex her skills once again. She had enjoyed the quiet while raising her family, but now that they were gone and age was starting to set in, she was starting to feel stagnant. Fighting again was refreshing, and she had every intent to make use of her abilities to defend her home, whether or not Hagen agreed to assist her.

Hagen as well was riding a high of adrenaline, it was always a small joy to assist with bandits, even if he couldn't help by feel guilt that they felt they had to to begin with. After all, could one say they really stood up for the common folk if they allowed those same people to feel the need to turn to crime? But, he'd think about that later, for now the aged warrior among them wished to speak more on the bandits.
"Certainly ma'am, it's the least I can do after all the help you've lent us."

Amara nodded gratefully. "Thank you very much, Lord Hagen. Oh!" Amara jumped with realization, "Dear me, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Amara McDonnel, I used to be a member of the Twenty-Sixth Regal Knights back in the day. Was quite the honor for a peasant girl like myself."

Amara spoke with great respect when revealing her past, and with good reason. The Regal Knights were an elite guard of the greatest warriors in all of Talstas. Members of groups as different as the Enfirian Reapers to the Royal Guard of Alketh came together to defend the High Kingdom against its foes. The last time the Regal Knights had been formed was during the war with the Desert King forty years prior. While there were always a few peasants who proved worthy of joining the group, to earn that right showed immense strength, bravery, and dedication.

And more than that, Hagen knew her name. His father had been a member of the Twenty-Sixth Regal Knights, and he had heard stories of them all his life. Amara McDonnel, some said she was blessed by the Moon itself with inhuman strength that allowed her to draw a bow twice her size. According to Hagen's father, she was a carefree woman who always found a way to look on the bright side of life, even in the midst of a gruesome battle.
