I must just have the worst luck in the world.
I am an avid Fortress Mode player. It's what I do. It's my thing.
I wanted to test the mettle of this new release, so I started practicing Adventurer Mode last night.
It started slow. At first, I couldn't even find the caves, and I was demoralized, but I finally found one, looked around a bit, and was promptly ripped apart by a surprise Giant Cave Spider.
Ok, ok. That's fine. Losing is fun.
I start another Adventurer, different town, (away from any nasty Haunted locales) get a horde of drunks, and go marching into another cave, to kill an ettin.
Hey, this is pretty fun. My posse and I are mauling Kobold Children, Troglodytes, Naked Mole Dogs. I personally face down an Iron Man, and Hammer his sweet little head off, then take his corpse. I repeat this process twice. I'm feeling pretty badass.
Then, I start seeing the telltale messages: "The GCS spits out the Drunk's left leg!"
I try to Travel. Enemies near.
"The GCS rams into the Drunk! The Drunk hits an obstacle and explodes in gore!"
Walkwalkwalkwebbedsplatsplatdie.
Haha! Good times! They really got me there.
Let me just start another adventurer, horde-o-drunks, quest, cave.
Heh! What raw luck! There's a GSC outside of this one. Yep. Dead.
New Adventurer. Well, maybe I'll just look around outside of town. You have to be kidding me. A flock of GSC's hanging out in a chasm. Dead.
This goes on for a while...
And so I go to the forums, and find myself a bit comforted that it is a common plight.
My only thing is, I'm a 'feel' based player. I really like playing Vanilla, I don't like mods. It's not an elitist thing; I just feel like playing the package as its delivered is a more enjoyable experience for me.
So I understand that I can apparently spam rocks until I am a veritable god of the thrown object, but I want to put in my two cents, that I hope that GSCs aren't necessarily tempered, but that something like tracking, or trapping is implemented to make them more tolerable.
I'm sure when Toady gets around to magic, they'll be a cinch, and I'm willing to wait for that.
