Day 1 - CYOGTCG HistoryAll of you create your new card. Unlike with the Core Cards, this one is not shown to everyone else. Presumably this is because of the fact that it's for you yourself, as opposed to being for your whole class. Your teacher wraps up his lecture, gives you a moment to theorize, plan, and all that, and then you are all shortly dismissed.
From there, you head to your next Class. CYOGTCG History. This teacher is both much older looking, and far less like listening to an audiobook of a text book. She introduces herself as Miss Akechi. It is now that you realize that either you didn't learn your Math teachers name, or you did and it was so boring it melded into his lecture. Smith maybe?
Anyway, your CYOGTCG History class today is teaching you about a slightly more advanced topic. Face-Down cards. In particular, the origin of your cards back-face and historical facts about face-down cards.
"If you'll please flip one of your cards over, it can be the Core Card dearies don't worry about that, you will see this image."
"This is a... assumedly
self portrait, of the original creator of the first iteration of CYOGTCG. His name was 'Moldova in Eurovision 2011'. To this day, historians are still studying his exact connection to the country of Moldova and the Eurovision song contest. Most have accepted that Moldova is the country he was either born or raised in though."
From there, you learn that a Face-down card is effectively hidden from the opponent. By default they cannot be attacked or
block attacks directly to your Hearts, but certain effects can change these. If those
are changed by an effect on the card, you have to declare as such before playing. You must also declare how many Stars you spent if you played Face-down cards that costed more than 0 Stars. If a card does something while face-down, it will be flipped face-up.
"Here is some fun trivia for you. For some time, an earlier version of CYOGTCG than what we used today employed the use of "Trap Cards". These cards were 'Event', or 'Spell' as some of you may call them, Cards which could only be played face-down, and would activate the instant that the trigger to flip it face up is triggered. People found that being able to trigger these cards on your opponents turn felt odd and lead to too much confusion about what order effects would happen in, so Trap Cards were abolished as a mechanic. That being said, you can still make a face-down spell card, but it can only be activated on your own turn, even if the trigger happened during the enemies turn."
You may now make a card that can have, or definitively
does have, face-down functionality. This doesn't guarantee it will have a special face-down related effect, but will instead guarantee it can be played face-down without another cards help. Leaving the field blank will leave the possibility of it being face-down to chance.
