Did this profession bludgeon people as their primary means of dealing physical violence, which you've confirmed they do in person and directly, not through intermediaries.

Intentional killing was part of the job, although it wasn't the purpose or the only method of operation.
Don't take "close to ninja" too literally.
They didn't create items, but the job could "produce" items in a wider sense.
