I'm not sure. His works are very well known, but the name may not be. It's hard for me to judge.

Yes.

Although I should add that at least one of the movies he's associated with is extremely famous - but I doubt most people would know that he had anything to do with it.

Bingo!

I hope this also clarifies why it was a little hard to say whether he was an actor and whether he was a character: as the host/narrator of the Twilight Zone, he sometimes interacted with the stories in a way that, in my book, would count as making him a character in them.
