Scrambling her way out of Rin's robes was...actually surprisingly harder than it sounded. It took her an age but somehow, she managed it, the little golden sheep scrambling her way out into Rin's lap and then crawling her way up to touch her front trotters lightly on the table arrayed before them. She couldn't poke out very far - it was likely impolite to bring sheep onto the dinner table - but it was still more than enough to catch a whiff of the dishes presented before them.

"Oh! Something smells... wrong."

Like the dishes had been left to cool for too long? It smelled very strange, so far as she could tell. Kaori shifted to crawl an inch closer to the dishes and gave them another deep sniff, trying to see if she could identify the reasons why. It might not be as strong as a dog's but sheep did have a sense of smell way stronger than people, after all. She'll figure out why, one way or another.

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Either you think our tongues don't work, or yours don't work. This food is far from fresh."
"Spare us from these little games. If you are up to something, tell us already."

Todoroki looks confused.
"Huh? Tastes perfectly fine to me. What are you guys talking about?"

"Up to something? Good sirs, I am offering you my house and home to avoid a terrible rainstorm. Hospitality is sacred."

Madoka glances at Todoroki with surprise, at least insofar as one can tell beneath the hood.

"You don't taste it?"

"I lived in a swamp, alone, for years tryna' make my own sword style to beat Sensei with. You think I care if some food's a bit old or not? Food's food."

[Chevaleresse]

Madoka folds her arms.

"Still strange."

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Even if 'food is food', doesn't it bother you this man is insisting the food is fresh when it obviously isn't?"
"And it is very clear he has no intentions of opening the game with us."

Todoroki shrugs.
"I mean, yeah, but....do you see any other reason he'd want to come after us? There are more of us than there of 'im."

Miyako had been taught at a young age not to say anything impolite about someone's cooking, especially when she's a guest. She was also taught not to speak falsehoods; that she wasn't praising the food either spoke volumes. Lord Kiyomaru was, however, a Lord, and that meant he should be handled with respect.

"Folks, as Lord Kiyomaru said, hospitality is sacred. We're breaking bread with him. He's not going to harm us."

Kiyomaru's eyebrows furrow.
"If the food is not to your liking, my apologies as a host. After all, the contract of hospitality is two-sided. I am obligated to offer the best I can to my charges. If you do not wish to partake further, I will have someone show you to your rooms for the night.."

[Praefectus Screptum]

"Yet he chooses to lie. We don't see that as a sign of hospitality."
"But if you are oh, so certain of the food quality...Why don't you have a bite? We didn't see you eat yet...or even open your eyes."

Kiyomaru lifts an eyebrow.
"My eyes are open, good sir. Have I erred somewhere?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Things are odd. Let us leave it at that."

Setsurou turned to Yusuke.

"Should we see the rooms for the night?"

He wanted a chance to inspect them for any hidden items or passages or anything else that might be strange, but he wasn't going to rush people along just yet.

Kiyomaru pauses.

He snaps his fingers.
"If you wish. I shall have the servants prepare your rooms for the night."

Another note gets passed to him from Rin.
"Gnosis reacting to something in the house. Not sure what. Want to check Yamada's room first."

Madoka nods. She stands and gives a quick, barely-polite bow before waiting for a servant to escort her back, expression inscrutable under her hood.
