Damnit people, this is why I said to keep the truce. Because now everyone's ganging up on the cats.
Also, don't forget to contact your local Eldritch Being(s), so that they can help with our mission to destroy the universe.

BC, Before Charisma, Dragons Rein. Make sure to get some advice from our advisers though. Proper human niceties are likely different from dragon customs.

I'll change my vote, then. BC. I was hoping to bank on the traditional separation between religious and temporal hierarchies - a priest is allowed to criticize a king - but we can try just being super polite about it instead.

You welcome the temporarily dispossessed into your own hall. After a brief welcome-speech on your part, Lucias ferries the people into whatever side rooms are available. Your graciousness and hospitality are praised!

Additionally, you dictate a polite-yet-firm letter to the emperor-king of Ræbbegott. Hopefully he looks kindly on his new draconic barony.

1251 AD, Early Spring

Your first year as RESPLENDENT DRAGON-QUEEN draws to a close! Your secretary presents you with the annual report.

Quote
Minor city: New Codhollow
Vassal hamlets: Fless, Detchwater, Garnemston

Contentment: 5
Population: 4
Wealth/HOARD: 3
(Economy: 2)
Military: 2

"You've added an extra number," you observe.

"Given the... uncertain significance of your personal treasury, lady ZENDRAKIEL," says Lucias, "it seemed fitting to differentiate between it and the public prosperity. Our fishing capacities are crippled after the recent attack, but your new vassal-hamlets will make up some of the difference until we can repair."

"There are further actions you might take to even the keel, of course," Lucias adds. He describes some options for you, in that thin, flat voice of his:

A) Use some of your HOARD to pay travelling boatwrights and craftsmen, speeding reparation of the town economy.
B) Your HOARD will not be distributed to petty boatmakers!

A) Draft more townsfolk into Ervin's guard.
B) Use some of your HOARD to employ travelling mercenaries and knights-craven.
C) Do both the things!
D) The military is doing ok for now.

A) Raise taxes on the townsfolk, to build up your HOARD.
B) Raise taxes on your vassal-hamlets, to build up your HOARD.
C) Raise taxes on both!
D) The taxes ought to stay where they are.

Gotta spend money to make money or something.

A better military will mean we can go off and steal treasure from bad people who shouldn't have treasure (everyone but us) and not worry about the little guys.

the thread shudders and begins to move!

Your DRACONIC NATURE quails at the sacrifice of your HOARD, even part of it… you resign yourself to the demands of LEADERSHIP, for now.

"...very well," you say, rising from your dais a little. With a careful sweep of your tail, you separate a third-portion of the coins from your HOARD before settling down again. "Use this to repair our city. The taxes, and our guard force, will remain as they are this year."

Lucias' eyes widen. He mumbles his gratitude, then sends for workmen to remove the allocated coin.
You refrain from biting their heads off.

Trumpets from the docks.

"Gæginas the 'corsair king' is here," says Guardcaptain Ervin as he enters your hall. His voice is tense, his eyes narrowed. "Or at least, one of his ships. The old Baron used to consort with him in the fall, every six or seven years. He's early."

"More pirates?" you hiss. "Must I burn every ship on the Arran Sea? I'll kill him myself."

"I would be careful, my lady," says Ervin. "Gæginas' title is not for nothing. He offers protection from other pirates to those who offer him tribute, and ruin to those who refuse. We mostly gave him fish."

A) "Let him enter my hall."
B) "Go and speak to him yourself."
C) "Turn him away, with force if needed!"
D) !!I've slaughtered one pirate captain this year; might as well make it two!!
