Newton

"Caw"

The bird then writes something down.

"Is it normal for dragons to consume each other?"

At this comment, Newton looks up at Brynn.

Brynn

Brynn looked at the freshly inked question and shook her head. "Not in my world, Deathless Crow. Dragons stopped eating our own kind long ago. Of course, things are doubtlessly different here. As we have already seen, there is no light of reason behind the eyes of these drakes. To them, meat is likely meat; best consumed before it rots back into earth."

With that said she returned her attention to IP's previous concern.

"Molestation during our return shall be no issue. Hold still, lest pieces of you be strewn where they ought not to be." With absolutely no time at all to question the ominous warning, the fabric of space swallowed up the young dragon and her comrades. The entire world seemed to suddenly shift, ancient forest and jungle instantly replaced with the wooden scaffolding and old shipwrought architecture of the city. The ordeal of traveling a significant distance without having actually moved a single step was disorienting at best and stomach churning at worse, but Brynn seemed totally unaffected as she strode towards the central platform.

Apparently the part about pieces of them ending up in wrong places was just black humor. One would want to hope as much, at least, given Brynn made absolutely no effort to look over everyone and make sure they'd arrived whole.

"Renown fighter control, this is Saejik," The Captain places a quick call in his communicator, "I have eyes on flight-capable megafauna.  I would appreciate it not being allowed to violate my airspace."

"Received and understood, Captain," The flight control lieutenant says, "We're vectoring Diamond Squadron to your location.  They should be able to handle any airborne threats for you."

High overhead, six TIE Hunters pierce the atmosphere in a pair of loose arrowhead formations, shields flaring as they deflect the heat and pressure of re-entry.  The distinctive shriek of their twin ion engines filling the air, they descend towards the Coral Highlands.

Diamond Squadron will arrive in 2 rounds.

Coral Highlands

Saejik calls in air support. One of the pilots notifies him that there seems to be other unidentified flying creatures in the area, at least large enough to give them pause were there to be a confrontation.

Cell buffs himself and his allies.

Kraken rips into the poor bastard with his machine gun, dealing [66] damage and gaining another stack of Berserk.

The wyvern finally manages to make it to its feet, and roars at the party with a shrill, echoing cry.

Astera

The appearance of the group immediately draws attention, in particular to Arisen's new makeover. The Commander wastes no time, drawing the party over to the planning table. "I see you've found evidence of Nergigante. As your bird friend hopefully told you, this may not just be any Nergigante, either. Some of them get old and tough enough that their spines harden like steel within minutes of regrowing. Any Nergigante is bad news, but if it's one of these. . . Well, I hope you came prepared for a real fight."

"All forms of defenses have their weaknesses. It is simply a matter of finding and then exploiting them, and we possess ample ability to do both."

After a moment, IP added, "That said, if there is anything you can provide to improve our damage output or anti-armor capabilities, we would be grateful."

Brynn

"I am also curious as to the exact nature of this 'Nergigante'." Brynn added. "If it is powerful and ferocious enough to hunt even Elder Dragons, it must truly be an apocalyptic force, no? Yet aside from the stirrings of the ecosystem, there does not seem to be much collateral from such a force anywhere nearby. How large are they? Are these regenerating barbs the be all and end all of their abilities? Surely such a dragon at least has a breath weapon as well, if not access to several other powers..."

Kraken wasn't about to let up on the aggression meeting the roar with a lightning fast pitch. Only instead of a baseball it was a grenade aimed at the beast's maw.

Use Frag out and then Rapid fire on the wyvern again. 3 Berserk stacks

Newton

The bird writes down some more.

"Do we have time to prepare?  If I could borrow some of your equipment, I think I could forge an item or two to help out.  Particularly if these spines do indeed regenerate"

"Pressure it!"  Saejik shouts to Cell and Kraken, "Drive it into the air so the fighters can hit it!"

Saejik uses Lead from the Front on himself, Cell, and Kraken, giving them each 20 temporary HP and a +6 attack damage boost for 3 rounds.

The TIE Hunters will arrive next round.  Lead from the Front will be on cooldown for 5 rounds.

Astera

"Prepare as thoroughly as you can. Nergigante is a dangerous foe and not many hunters have encountered it, much less fought it successfully. As for why it's dangerous, don't underestimate the power of tenacity, muscle, and ferocity. Nergigante takes down other dragons with sheer power, pouncing on them and overwhelming them before they can use their powers to affect it meaningfully. As far as the effects on the ecosystem, you haven't been watching like we have. All the local monsters are more active and hostile than usual with this kind of threat looming, and if it keeps going, things will fall out of balance, or one of its prey will go on a rampage.

Based on previous encounters, you should expect Nergigante to be weak to the thunder and dragon elements. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any breath weapons that the latter will disrupt. It's also far smarter than it looks."

Coral Highlands

The onslaught continues to tear into the unfortunate wyvern. However, it proves hardy enough to make it into the air - all according to plan.

At least, until it wasn't.

The Legiana comes crashing to the ground in a flurry of wings, claws, spikes, and pained screeches. When the dust clears, a creature about the same size as Legiana, but far more heavily built, stands in its place, one forelimb on the back of the wyvern's neck. The spines coating seemingly every inch of its body scrape over one another another with a metallic sound as a loud crack sounds, and the Legiana goes limp.

The creature breathes in, then releases a gutteral roar at the party.

Saejik's fighter support is inbound and ready for action, at his command.

IP

IP looked over at Brynn meaningfully at the mention of a weakness to dragon elements. "Understood." With that, IP stepped back, waiting for others to ask their questions or prepare.

Cell

Cell uses Lightspeed and puts two stacks on Saejik.  The next two attacks that would hit him hit Cell instead and the attacker becomes taunted by Cell in the process.

Kraken's first instinct when the horny cousin of the dragon from Ringfit Adventures landed and announced what the fuck was up, was to just run. But years of military training and usually being the last one in line when running happened instead made him sit and glance to the others of his team, preparing to fall back so they can regroup no doubt. At least that was his assumption until Speak and Spell made some movements that very definitely did not look like running away, and so Kraken sighed as he fired up once again.

Kraken uses Flush Them Out, reducing Nergigante's DR by 45%. 5 Berserk stacks

Newton

Newton finishes the construction of leather, metal, and organic spines.  The regenerating spines don't quite look like the dark black Nergigante spines, but are significantly paler.  He tucks the strap/trap device carefully away inside his chest feathrs, which takes a bit of time as the spikes are longer than he is.

Still, as he finishes up, Newton takes a quick look around, to see if there's any spare metal pieces which he can 'acquire', while the others are distracted outside.

"Well, that looks hostile," Saejik remarks, putting on a calm front as is his habit.  After all, if the officers are surprised or nervous, the men pick up on it, and morale and performance suffers.  "Renown fire control, I believe some turbolaser fire would be in order.  Show this... spiny creature why humanity is at the top of the food chain."

The turbolaser barrage will arrive in 2 rounds!
