Rainbow
The spider once again ceases moving entirely, and a soft whirring can be heard from it's abdomen as it considers Brynn's question.

IP

IP slowly approached the giant spider and Brynn, turning to the latter.

"I believe the threat has passed. Are we ready to proceed?"

Brynn
Brynn braced her sword in the earth as she gazed at the fallen Rathian one last time. Clear regret was etched on her face, but after a few moments she shook her head, her expression forced back into something more neutral in the process.

"Yes... let us g-" She paused as she noticed a series of broken spikes embedded in the ground. Given their size and color, they were quite clearly not from the Rathian. Didn't it's mate have such barbs embedded in it? "...No. Not yet, Intrsuctor Prototype. Look yonder." She pointed at the protrusions. "Were those not the very spikes lodged in the red drake? Something seems... unright about them. I cannot place what, though."

Newton

Yay!  Victory!

Do two quick laps of the corpse, looking for any kind of strange trap or something, before diving in and digging in.

If possible, eat something from the corpse.  Should be some guts or something.  Fill my inventory with any corpse-bits that look interesting, from scales to hair or feathers or something.

Leave the spines alone, for now.

Something's odd with those spines.  I can probably carry them, but I'll let the others examine them first.

"I believe, in the absence of any further information about this creature or local customs and technology, that there's little more I can do to prepare at the moment," Saejik says, "Let us be about our business, and hopefully we'll be able to adjust our strategy for more challenging encounters in the future."

Ancient Forest

Brynn acquires a Rathian Tail. The brilliant green scales on this are interrupted by a forest of poisonous barbs, a toxin potent enough to sicken wyverns of equivalent size.

(39, 90, 50)
Newton acquires a fair bit of meat and organs, but more importantly, obtains:
Rathian Scale: An emerald scale that's unmistakable wherever it's seen. Useful for forging gear.
Rathian Shell: A sturdy piece of Rathian's shell that is both tough and light. Useful for forging gear.
Flame Sac: A bladder filled with powder that combusts with the air. Used for a variety of purposes.

Mira discovers that the spikes don't seem to have broken off of anything; rather, they looked detachable, judging by the relatively clean break and lack of spare bits clinging to the "broken" end. She also gets the feeling that the spines might not actually be dead tissue at all.

Coral Highlands

It does look like Cell can get the entire wyvern in the blast. It shifts again in its sleep, as if made uneasy by something.

Newton gets out his book and begins writing.

"So do we want to look for this other creature, or do we want to go back now?"

Mira

Planting her sword into the ground, Mira picked up one of the spikes with both hands, hefting it up as she took a closer look. She wasn't a professional animal hunter like some mercenaries were, but she still knew how to take note of various natural defenses or weapons. And from an immediate look, Mira could tell that these spikes were not just a natural defense. They were detachable, like they were designed to pierce and stick into an opponent. For a moment, she cursed herself for not being able to figure out more, but her instincts told her that this was important. Perhaps the contractors back in Astera would know more about it.

With that, Mira rose to her feet, holding the spike underneath her arm as she retrieved her sword, walking back to the group and, after taking a short look at Newton's notebook, shook her head, "No. We're not yet sure if these wyverns are our culprits. We've already wasted enough time going after an unrelated target. But these spikes-" Mira states, bringing attention to the spike held in her arm, "-are not normal. I can certainly tell they don't naturally belong to that red wyvern, which means it must come from something else. Our contractors at Astera would likely know what sort of monster these come from, but our job is not yet done."

"Makes sense."

"Although... maybe I could fly them back and find out where to find that monster?"

Brynn

"Hmmm," The young whelp thought about for a few moments "We are not that far from the city yet, but yes, perhaps that is the best decision. You will likely make it back by air faster than all of us by foot. Mira, if you would relinquish the thorns to the Deathless Crow?"

Mira

"So long as he can carry it" Mira stated bluntly, stepping forward and placing the spikes in front of Newton, "We can keep searching around while he gets any info. We're bound to find something more."

Newton

The bird bends over carefully, head down to acknowledge Mira.  Then he shuffles over, settles on the spines, and stands up, spines having vanished to wherever he keeps his stuff.

He takes to the air, flying back towards the village while keeping just above treetop level.  There are many large creatures in the air, but he's fast enough while being too small to be considered an obvious meal.

He then alights at the office on top of the ship.. the similar area where the commander spoke to them before the party headed out the first time, looking for whoever is available at this time.

Kraken, Coral Highlands

With mister Text to Speech attacking, Kraken adds his own grenade. He throws it with an arm that would put most pitchers to shame, straight at the creature's head before following up by letting loose a withering spray of lead from his gun.

Kraken uses Frag out and Rapid fire.

Brynn
Mira
"We can keep searching around while he gets any info. We're bound to find something more."

"Indeed." Brynn nodded. "There is yet something I must do first, though." She found a nice flat rock large enough to suit her needs. She gently placed the Rathian tail down on it and held up Arisen, breathing brilliant blue flames upon the latter until a shrill, perpetual ring not unlike that of a massive tuning fork split the air. With the blade wreathed in a ghost blue light, she gathered her strength and plunged down into the severed limb with all her might, causing a small tremor to rock the ground as the winds of reality whipped past her, sending the skirt of her dress wildly billowing as it attempted to reject her.

Quote from: Stormlord on Discord, 8/6/22
35 vs 28 - Success!

[Level 5: Quenched in the tail-marrow of a Rathian- This weapons now has a "Dragon Gauge".  It has a maximum of ten, fills by one with each attack, and persists between encounters.  When the Dragon Gauge is full the user may expend it during an attack to inflict Dragon Blight for two rounds.
Dragon Blight: Reduces Fire, Ice, Lightning, Light, and Dark damage dealt by 50%.]
[Level 6 - Reduces the size of the Dragon Gauge to seven.]

Bymildrilar would not be rebuked though. With a roar befitting of her true nature, she redoubled her grip and plunged Arisen even further, causing the blade to emit an equally fierce and reptilian vocalization, just before everyone present was blinded with a brilliant flash of light. When the world finally faded back into color, the tremors were over, the harrowing winds gone, and Brynn held the new Arisen aloft for inspection. Through it's assimilation it had become a single-edged blade, still too massive for a lesser creature but more slender and graceful now. The flat of it's blade had been marked by a green-black hue while its edge shone a dull silver. Emerald scales adorned the hilt and curved themselves around the handle to form suspiciously snout shaped handguard. Black spikes sprouted from where the spine of the blade gave way to the hilt, and occasional cracks of black lightning danced across their tips. Most worrying of all though, was the constantly shifting, orange draconic eye now embedded in the guard, which seemed to be thoroughly examining all of those present. For whatever reason, Brynn seemed to not be bothered in the least bit.
