Welcome to the Bei Bu.

Before we begin, we must determine who and what your people actually are.

What type of landscape did your people settle on? This place had a great impact on your people, and defined what became your peoples first Style. What Style was it? This Style is Unarmed and of a singular Element influenced by your people's surroundings. Proposals for Unarmed Styles should include the mindset it's practitioners aim to be in, as well as how the Element is utilized, and any techniques or strikes they specialize in.

You may refer to the Core Thread's rules for guidelines as well as ask me for basic input.

Fox Style, Unarmed [Wood Version]
once our capital was a land of sprawling forests and tree-covered hills, with time these gave way to cities and rice terraces, but the influence remains in the Fox style. The Fox style requires the user to be as cunning as the fox, able to constantly keep their opponent off balance and out of measure. The usage of Wood elemental effects is mostly based around creating illusions and distractions, one technique using a burst of cherry blossoms to obscure the user. Monks who train in the fox style tend to be fairly jovial, if prone to pranks and trickery.
The first and current head of the Fox style school would like to take this time to remind everyone that his incredible longevity is purely do to his mastery of internal alchemy, and has nothing to do with any rumors about some supernatural ancestry

Unweathered Cliff face style, Unarmed [Earth]

It is said that the unweathered cliff style was born when the Great and Honourable ancestor bore witness to the grand Royal cliffs of the eastern seas, So named for their natural Colouring barring similarities to an emperor's Purple robes and the sheer scale.
Stretching miles, These cliff faces presented an Unbroken, Unmared and unbeaten face, Purple and as vibrant as  the clothing of an emperor despite the incredibly beating that the Barren sea, Named for its impossibility for fishermen to ply their trade at the time due to its incredibly wrathful nature. The temperamental Sea would strike the cliff faces with Towering waves to which the ancestor was but an ant, It would whip the Royal cliffs with Mist and water droplets as strong as arrows and Slam the floating remains of its victims both natural and manmade into it like the impact of a Hundred Fists.

Despite this The cliff faces were unbowed. Not a mark could be seen upon their Royal Face, Not a dent or even an Imperfection, Years hardening the rocks until even the Wrath of the Barren sea was unable to even mark them.

The grand ancestor was awed. For 300 days and 300 nights Meditated, Moving closer to the edge of the cliff and Exposing himself more and more to the wrath of the sea with every Truth of the universe he came to understand. Every Breakthrough He moved closer, Even as his meditating body was struck by diminished blows from the sea.
It is said that for the final 77 days of his meditation, He sat at the edge, Taking the blows of the barren sea just as the Royal Cliff had for centuries.

Finally, he kneeled, Thanking the great cliffs for their teachings as though a commoner before to the emperor himself and traveled to what would day become the capital of Bei bu.

The city sat close to the wonderous Royal cliffs, Along a river that led from the Northern mountain down to the Barren sea. The river was large, Concentrating all of the runoff from the Northern mountains and almost as temperamental as the Sea that it fed into. Even with its temperamental nature, it served as the best source of water as the tundra that the city sat on was filled with the Sea to its east and the mountain to its north.
The temperamental river would flood commonly and had torn apart any attempt to damn or divert its flow. as such the Fishman of the captial had to sate themselves with the fish that would be left stranded by the flooding river.
The deep muck of the river's flood plains served as the perfect medium for the rice that the city fed on, Provided the river didn't tear the crop away.

It was a hard and temperamental mistress, But the river was the best source of food and water for the city and so the city was constructed their, weathering the harsh blows of the tempermental capital River.

At the time, The city was ruled by a tyrant, A cruel emperor who would execute his citizens if they didn't move out of his way fast enough.
The grand ancestor Traveled to this city, Sat upon the main Throughway of the city, Directly in the middle. And began to meditate.

Immediately, many disgruntled workers and farmers attempted to dislodge him But found their attempts met with Flesh as though stone. Sticks broke, Insults Ignored as though flies.
Soon, The city found t easier to move around him, and the Strange meditating Monk was left to himself as the city learned to ignore its new prop.

Then one day the Emporer came, His caravan of horses and wagons, decorated in hundreds of thousands of artisans beads, each depicting a tapestry of the greatness of this man and so tightly packed it could be used to hold water. The Precession found the man, And could not move his with fist nor word nor club.
When told of this, The Emporer demanded he be beheaded.
His royal guards went, The swords came down. and the swords broke, with nary a mark on the Grand ancestor's skin. Leaving the blades of the swords where they fell, They scrambled back to their emperor.

Enraged the emperor had his guards hitch a hundred ropes and a hundred horses to the man, In order to pull him out of the processions way and then quarter him outside the city.
The ropes came And were lashed to the Grand ancestor until naught could be seen of the Meditating man. The horses pulled.

And the man stayed. The ropes frayed and snapped, Whipping out and striking the Royal guards as the man proved just as Impossible to move as the cliff faces.

Enraged, the emperor ordered a Bonfire built, The size of the throughway. Stack upon stacks of wood was built around the man, Pitch Splashed upon the wood to ensure proper ignition and still that GRand ancestor meditated, not a care in the world. The Massive Bonfire raged for seven nights and seven days, Turning the Brokens swords to slag and the frayed ropes to ash.

And yet at the end of that grand bonfire. The man remained. Body covered in ash, yet not even a burn upon him.
AS the man stood up and Wiped the ash from his skin it revealed itself to be a deep, vibrant purple, Similar to the cliff from which he learned.

The man bowed, Thanked the emperor for aiding in his Training, and began to leave.
Thoroughly cowed by who he believed to be a member of the divine court, the emperor begged forgiveness and to be taken as his student. As the man had done the grand ancestor a favor, He agreed to the request.

Soon the emperor would find himself supplanted in his own court, as many of the nobles and Guard also begged to learn from the grand ancestor.

The City soon found itself to be a dominant power of the surrounding Plains and Tundras. Using the earthen elemental energies of the style, The army of What would be Beu bu found themselves capable of marching for incredibly long times as the earth boiled their own energy and endurance, Far past where any other army would be forced to use horses to traverse the empty tundras or camp for the night. In battle, the enemy would find their weaponry useless, as Arrows bounces off of unprotected skin and spears splintered against bare flesh.

Beyond battle, Practitioners would wade into the Tempermental river, Hunting fish by hand in a way they could not by delicate boat and using their own bodies to finally tame it, Slowing the rivers flow by carving a series of dams, ponds, and lakes, making life upon the river bank infinitely easier as canals were carved by hand as a form of training. By taming the Tempermental river, The number of people the city could feed and the number of crops that could be planted in controlled flood plains ballooned in size, with the number of those swept away decreased every year until it was considered rare

The unweathered cliff face style used the earthen energy it was formed in accordance with in order to fortify the natural body into an unmanageable edifice. This ability to take devastating blows with little to no damage means that the style quickly came to rely on devastating counterblows, Ignoring light blows that had no hopes to pierce their skin, Thus forcing the Foe into a series of powerful blows that could be deflected and dodged before a powerful counterblow is delivered.  While the natural strength of a member of the unweathered Cliff style is relatively unaugmented, A barehanded blow was still devastating as the sheer hardness was as though the practitioner was wearing a metallic glove.
For those foes who refused to be drawn into the inevitable counterblow, The Unweathered Cliffs augmented sTamina would ensure that that they would see exhaust themselves long before the Practitioner would.
Many Practitioners are defined by a Calm and collected demeanor, With panic, a rare thing to them as the very earth energy that Enhances their bodies promotes a more placid and long-standing view.

The most basic techniques of the unweathered cliff face were built off of the Body of stone Flooding the body with earthen energy long the same patterns and flood lines within the body as those initially discovered by the Grand ancestor. The body of stone would then harden the body Providing the foundation for the rest of the style, Many students of the style find moving with the Body of stone difficult, thus the early days are spent in meditation to as learn the movement of the earthen energy by instinct. The more learned in the style, The stronger the style's Body of stone becomes. The number of people who have managed to scratch the surface of the Grand acestors own body is capable on a single hand in the course of all of Bei bu's history.

The Royal Breath technique is the second technique taught to students of the style, Requiring a proper flow of Earthen energy, similar to that of the body of stone. By augmenting their organs with earthen energy and incredibly controlled breathing, the stamina of a practioner grows by leaps and bounds. This is the technique that allows a Member of the Unwhethered Cliffface to survive lack of air, incredibly long journeys, and even lack of food, and is typically used as a stepping stone to the more complicated technique do the amount of time spent in meditation it can require.

Dance of hungry sands, Unarmed [Earth]

The lands of our home are harsh. Endless sun beats down on desolate sand. The heat fuels the desert's hunger, creates winds that drive grains to wear us away till nothing remains. We have come to understand this relationship between sun and sand. We adapt, and thrive. We have developed a fascinating art which draws on the intense winds and heat of the desert for inspiration. A form of dance, unique to our people, forming a rather interesting martial art where each movement is made to feed a greater whole.

Initially practiced almost exclusively at various festivals, a grand display of movement and magic, it has evolved over time. Though its roots as a form of art are still visible, in the graceful flowing movements and beautiful katas used, it has been bent towards conflict in the present time. The first users stemmed from the early tribes of proto Bei Bu peoples that wandered the deserts, groups of monks seeking purity in the desolation and emptiness of the desert. To use its harsh environs to harden themselves and purge their hearts of the sins brought about by laziness and comfort.

They studied the desert, studied the world, and themselves, but preserving that knowledge proved difficult, as they lacked the resources for paper and exposed stones carved with written words would be worn away by the sand. Their solution to preserving their wisdom through time was the creation of songs and dances which were based on and would carry their knowledge and insights forwards into the future. Over time they adapted, grew, the desert became their home, great temples were built, then cities. Migrating monks began transporting goods between cities in exchange for money they used for essential goods, before evolving into full fledged merchants. Times changed and the Proto Bei Bu peoples evolved into something much more recognizable.

The dances that would become this martial art were not magical at first, merely imitating the flow of the sands and depicting the relationship between sun, sand, and wind. It was only when one particular practitioner of these dances lost everything to a bandit raid that they evolved. Cast out into the sands of the deserts, she wandered for days, with little to no food and water. It is said that for days at a time she existed between life and death, hungry, partched, and with the sun beating down on her. Perhaps this is when the gods came to her, or perhaps it was the desert itself, whatever the case, something happened out there. Something that would spark a change in her and the world.

Eventually she wandered to a grand trade city built around an oasis. The Guards found her at the gates of the city, looking like something more dead than alive, dancing, each movement creating bursts of wind and sand around her. She demonstrated her powers to the Sultan, and in exchange for teaching his people the arts she had learned, his armies would follow her out into the desert. A fortnight later and the bandits were no more, by blade and hungry sands they were slaughtered. Over time, that city would go on to conquer its neighbors with the power of the hungry sands, eventually uniting them all as a nation known as Bei Bu.

Through movement and magic, those who use these dances turn themselves into the sun that forges a miniature desert around them, using their inner heat to create a swirling vortex of wind and sand around their feet. This vortex is filled with a heat similar to the worst days of summer within the desert, making even the lightest touch have the potential to inflict great pain and possible burns.

Maintaining and creating this vortex is concentration intensive, especially for those less experienced in it. As such, most users aim to create and maintain a Flow state, being completely absorbed into the dance. Each movement must be calibrated to adjust, strengthen, or flow with the sands, while also avoiding making direct contact with it and getting burned. Each move must flow as part of the dance which creates the effect. The benefits of this, however, are that the vortex around them can be used for both offense and defense, forming shields or whips of sand, deflecting attacks or wearing opponents down to nothing with wind, and so on.

There are also techniques where multiple users to combine their efforts to create greater effects, known as formation dances. Currently the only known formation dance simply creates a sandstorm over an area, wearing down defenses and blocking vision. Unfortunately the Sandstorm Formation dance is rather complex and requires a lot of coordination, experience, and precision from all participants. Thankfully the vortex dance itself is among the most basic techniques learned, meaning most users still have a magical option in combat.

Outside of elemental manipulation the dances taught aren't as directly applicable, but the lessons learned from studying them, and the physical conditioning acquired, are. Their focus on flowing movements and subtle speed feeds into close combat and movement, where practitioners seem to spin and flow around opponents in a dizzying dance of death, being hard to hit or pin down. The individual attacks of those who use this style tend not to be the strongest, but the need for endurance in the dances means that they just keep hitting, wearing a foe down like the sands grind down rocks.

Gravedigger style [Earth]
Long ago, The Grand ancestor lived in peace, In a small village. He was noone special, Merely a grandfather, an elder of the village who had spent his life working a meager life and doing his best to help build his community.

One day he left, Going to hunt a deer in order to aid the village during a hard harvest. The hunt was hard with his elderly body, But he succeeded. Carrying the deer across his weathered shoulders, he trekked back to his village through the Massive forests of his home. Tree so tall and strong that they would blunt and shatter metal tools long before they could truly bring the behemoths down, and the funds to buy the steady stream of tools that were required was not to be found within even the most powerful cities near his home did not have either the ore veins or the money to attempt it.

When he returned to his village, He found a tragedy. His family, His village, Slaughtered by the caravan of a cruel king, lord of the nearby largest city in the forest, who determined that the peasants had not bowed fast enough.

Their bodies had been left where they fell, rotting in the sun and preyed upon by every scavenger in the grand forets.
Tear fell down the old mans face as hed did the only thing he could, cupping his handsl and stabbing deep into the earth, Up and down the he dug, Digging a grave for each of his precious people who had met their end with nothing but his bare hands. Up and down the his cupped hands went,digging Grave after grave. His elderly body should have fell apart, The immense task of digging a grave by hand, let alone one for every member of the village, difficult even for those strong of body let alone those of extreme age.

Up and down his hands went, Fresh, Black dirt rose and fell Excavation going faster with every grave dug with his bare hands, The flow of tears down his face never faltering.

When the last of His village were buried, The man dropped the shovel. He had nothing left.

A group of traders, passing through the village on their yearly route, Found the old man Tears dried out, sitting on the ground.

Brining the Elder with them, They returned to their own village where he found employment as a gravedigger in thanks to the people who had gone out of their way to care for him. Farmers and Gravekeepers alike flocked to the old man from across the village in order to learn the technique he had developed during hisMourful gravedigging.


A generation later, The king's procession traveled through the merchants village, and were buried one and all from the farmers who were threatened during their morning walk to push back the Hungry tree roots that would attempt to choke out their fields.

The king's Wife Traveled after her husband's footsteps even as the city she “ruled” Fell into open rebellion due to the sovereign ruler mysteriously disappearing. Many years later she would return, Using the teachings of the Gravedigger style to reconquer her rightful throne and revolutionise the city. Using the gravedigger style, The disciples of the queen were able to push back hungry roots and knock down the behemoth tree, each filled to the brim with Wood elemental that was unable to overcome the very earth it grew from.

This allowed the City to undergo a Veritable golden age as Farming land become more available and space was no longer a premium secured through the deaths of hundreds of worn out and broken tools.

In combat, The Gravedigger style utilizes a series of blistering kicks and devestating punches. The moundmaker kicks moving of earth in order to both knock the enemy off balance in an attempt to bury them and strike them with powerful blows that have been backed by the weight of the soil they are excavating from vast quantities of dirt . Devastating punches, Initially created to mimic a shovel puncturing the earth are instead used to push the enemy straight into the ground. By directing Eathen energy through the opponent Clothing, weapons and armour, Formed from both wood natures and metal natures, Things that originated in the earth and thus are perfectly adequate channels for the energy, and into the grund below them, The grave diggers gain th eability to sink them into the ground
The point of the style typically revolves around shaping the terrain in order to create an opening, culminating in a death strike when the enemy leaves himself vulnerable to it. Typically this Deathstroke will come when the enemy falls into a grave or becomes buried from the downwards strike, At which point the Practitioner will quickly suck them down deep into the earth or compact a large amount on top of them, Burning them into their grave alive.

The Style can typically be summed into the Three basic technique,

The Mound maker Kicks, With which that Gravedigger practitioner will gradually warp the earth around them, Using earthen energy to pull the earth from the ground with every strike, Leaving Holes and pits in the ground even as they enhance their blows ith the weight of the earth they excavate. A Gravedigger will typically act methodically, Creating Pit after pit in a flurry of attacks that leave the enemy little to no safe footing, until at last, they make a mistake and strip into one of the deeper pits. After a complete strike, The dirt will fall to the ground, creating yet more loose footing.

The Quickgrave fist as it is known is a techniuq designed to release Earthen energy from the Users hand at the end of a devestating punch. By channeling through the Wood natured clothing and Metals on a person, The earthen energies have a perfectly adequate channel to reach the earth below that person. This earth energy weakens the earth, parting it around the enemy's body as the force of the punch sinks them down into it, leaving them vulnerable to follow up blows and Compaction of the unrestful dead.

Compaction of the unrestful dead if the final basic blow, encompassing the third form of the style. The Powerful execution strike. Difficult to accomplish on an enemy that has not been worn down, The compaction of the unrestful dead was initially used to deal with corpses that had been overflown with wood qi. By covering their hand in soil, a gravedigger will place it upon the enemy, and contract the soil, crushing what is beneath it through the sheer might of a mountain, It can be very hard to land this blow, as such is used a sure kill technique because a practitioner must lay hands on the target, Not just land a strike. Not an easy thing to do to someone still in fighting condition. The Normal targets for this technique are those who have tripped due to the mound maker kicks.

Through movement and magic, those who use these dances coat themselves in furious heat. A blazing hot wind which wraps around the limbs and body of a user, maintained as long as they keep up the dance. An Aura of scorching wind that eats away, and reaches out to attack those nearby. In actual combat they tend to go for a death by a thousand cuts approach, using flowing movements to rapidly eat up ground and get in close.

They weave around their foes, dodging blows and twirling around while the heat of their winds wears down their targets. With the user delivering blow after blow infused with scorching wind, individually weak, but strong in combination. The intense concentration and stamina acquired in the demanding process of learning the Dance combine well with their style of wearing down foes blow by blow, making them often deadly combatants

At range their options are more limited, but those who are more skilled in the Dance are known to lash their aura out in bursts of blazing wind, spiralling out to strike foes from a distance. Their aura is known to be so hot it seems to glow, but they never seem harmed, through some application of magic the blazing heat of their aura never touches them, and neither does it burst into flames.

Fulcrum Touch Style

The Bei-Bu are a people of two ancestries, united by their home, a land which they proudly and stalwartly defend, both bending against the mighty cavalry charges of hordes to then throw them aside, and striking gaping holes in disciplined ranks of heavy infantry. This land, rich, lusted after, but never quite seized thanks to the joined hands of cooperation and the thrown hands of martial arts, is the Fulcrum Valley - in the two languages of the land, the Zhidian Valley or the Tirek Valley.

The Fulcrum Valley itself is very much a pleasant place to live in - not one whose natural challenges would necessarily shape a people into a bunch of powerful elemental martial artists on its own. Sitting in a gentle rift among the foothills of a large mountain range, the Fulcrum Valley has a number of excellent geographical features that work in its favor - a river, a frankly stunning abundance of rich ores running in its hills, and a typically temperate climate (if perhaps a little humid and one prone to hot summers and cold winters). Were it totally isolated, the Fulcrum Valley could practically serve as a peaceful little paradise, a place to work crafts of steel and achieve prosperity from them.

But, of course, the Valley was far from isolated. On one side of the valley, over rolling plains and hills, semi-nomadic peoples roamed, and some ventured into the valley, finding its riches and comfort attractive. On the other side of the valley, from stalwart mountains and lands beyond, settled people entered, seeking to take a claim for themselves. Though sparse at first, they seized pieces of the valley for themselves - and then they fought. The nomads, even when off of their horses, fought with martial arts skills, a combination of wrestling and kicking able to seize superiority. The settled peoples fought with the power of iron that resonated with the rich ores in the mountains of their home and the hills here, crude as it was. But the winner of this test of skill was time - as these peoples began to intermingle and settled more firmly in the valley, they began to achieve more by combining their skills than they had by pitting them against each other, drew more from the Valley when they weren't busy fighting each other to the death, mixing together to become a milieu of two peoples, fusing their skills into one art that developed and blossomed over time.

But it wasn't the Fulcrum Valley yet. It became that when the Khans on one side of the valley decided that they could really use all of that metal, when the Emperors on the other side of the valley decided that it sure would be nice to have that strategic gateway to all that new fertile land, and the people IN the valley decided it was time to use their new style to balance between the two by kicking the fucking hell out of them.



Fundamentally, the Fulcrum Touch style relies on its core on an idea of staying flexible and balanced, to punish those who show their hand too hard against the practitioner. However, this is not some mere centering where the practitioner stays reserved and on top of things at all times - instead, the Fulcrum Touch punishes the opponent with a brutal and sudden swing into the opposite of the aggression or defensiveness the opponent had been showing. This is well emphasized by the two major elemental techniques of the school, and the close combat which comes with them (as a wrestling-strong style, the practitioner typically does seek to use their arms to grasp their opponent - the question is in what context, and what comes next).

The Touch of the Horde turns cloths and furs to steel, suddenly potentially greatly upsetting the weight and range of motion of the opponent, though it can hardly be expected to be permanent. The people of the Fulcrum Valley have used it traditionally to devastating effect on the nomads of the northern plains, unseating them from their horses with a grab, turning their garb to metal, and sending them crashing furiously to the ground, sent by the momentum and new weight to an absolutely bone-shattering impact. Against fellow martial-artists, it punishes leaping and striking and furiously offensive opponents, leaning into the wrestling aspects of the style to create unnaturally devastating throws.

The Touch of the Wei-Suo turns steel into mere cloth, ruining weapons and armor for a brief but vital time. The people of the Fulcrum Valley have used it to devastating effects on the armies of the southern mountains, kicking heavily armored soldiers into bloody pulps, with no concern for the steel that might as well not have been there, carving furrows into menacing, heavily organized units and causing the armies of a grand empire to break. Against fellow martial-artists, it primarily punishes those who go on the defensive too heavily. Even without the elemental aspect of this technique, it takes the wrestling with the arms and follows it up with savage, rapid kickboxing which can crack a martial artist open like a nut. In particular, a user of Armed Styles who elects to rely on his weapon for defense will soon find himself annihilated by the savage offense. Gods forbid someone actually use armor.

Fangs of the Desert - Basic Armed Style
It is well known that the desert is deep, and that the deeper you go the less mercy the land has for those who travel upon it. What, then, can be said of those who live in the deep desert?

Many things, but few of them are flattering.

One of the more infamous kinds of deep desert dweller are the ones know as the Fangs of the Desert, spear warriors whom meditate on the deprivation and freedom of the deep sands. Fleet of foot, hardy of body, and supposedly able to go weeks without food or water they were one of the most fierce foes against any who would claim the deserts for their own. So of course as the people of Bei Bu claimed the deserts, and its deep oasis and trade routes, as their own they found these desert monks a foe worth respecting. And a foe worth respecting is one worth being learned from, or so some masters said, and by cunning and force the secrets of the desert monks were shared with the desert's new lords.

Now many in Bei Bu practice the art of the Fangs of the Desert, welding light spears for offense and defense and mobility alike. The warriors who practice the Fangs of the Desert fight with agility and mobility, striking and withdrawing with the speed of the desert wind. Honed by their time in the desert they are masters of sudden attacks that leave deep wounds before they withdraw beyond the range of counter attacks both by foot and by using their spear to help maneuver, vaulting across distances and shifting their momentum suddenly and unexpectedly, only to return again and attack from a different unexpected direction.
