If dwarves actually clean up blood now can you designate areas for them to toss the blood? Most obvious choice would be outside river, or large buckets for dumping during sieges! Imagine the horror of having gallons of blood dropped on you while charging into a line of hardy speardwarves!!

I believe when the blood is cleaned up in the current version it is simply removed from the game.
In future versions it sounded like Toady will have it designed in a similar way.

Generally regular blood would dry up and be in too few a quantity. I suppose slime could be gathered up, but apart from that the only other way would be if you got someone to bleed down a grate into a small space.

Maybe there should be some kind of "drain blood from animal" command for players inclined towards macabre forts.

jack johnson, raider has been shot and killed.

The above (including bbcode) neatly weighs in at 255 characters. Fallout meets DF

From the latest dev notes...  Glacier melting from within? I don't suppose caveins were implemented to any degree at that point.. Otherwise, it'd be a VERY short-lived fortress.  :)

Additionally, this made me think. If walls of solid ice can melt due to high temperature...  can stone walls melt too? I mean, magma is just molten rock. It's surrounded by darkstone that withstands its temperature, but if it's breached, won't magma melt through normal rock before cooling down and becoming darkstone itself? This is in regards to magma floods and channeling magma into rooms. I'm also curious if it will be possible to "mine" ice with flaming objects in adventure mode. And will ice blocks be available from normally mined ice?

Blood isn't a fluid though, just a contaminant. So cleaning up the blood doesn't move it somewhere as much as just remove it.

At least, so far it does. In the future we might have our fortresses sporting lovely blood-spurting fountains.

I don't know how Toady currently has cave-ins working, but if it was me, I'd only check for cave-ins when you dig a square. Since melting != digging it may not have checked, but may have added another item to the list of Thing to Do.

Hmmm well this is DF so it would end up being more like...
Your fortress affects the culture of your dwarven civ to the extent of how much wealth you have (more money = more influence). So if you have a moat of blood and are really rich then dwarves might suddenly start to like blood moats.

Course this would be something way too distant to be something implemented soon soon.
