Let's face it... It is time to remove the DF Suggestions category from the forums and replace it with Toady worship .

Indeed, this is great, Toady!

Toady, we will be able to see when a dwarf is talking with weach other? In the current version I think they are show "Doing Nothing" when they are talking or having meetings with the mayor and such. It would be nice if we could see if they are meeting and complaining with the mayor, for instance. This way, we wouldn't be so upset knowing that it is doing something instead of justing doing nothing.  :)

Sure, but when you look what they are doing, it appears "Do Nothing"

What do the various personality traits do right now? What are they supposed to do eventually?

Aluminum is in the game now? I would have thought that smelting aluminum would be way beyond the capabilities of the dwarves.

Then again, they ARE dwarves...

This is pretty cool, I can see how it would work.  I imagine personality traits could effect how a dwarf does certain jobs, the speed at which they get more experienced at it, or the quality of work done.  Like a creative dwarf would be more suited towards creating furniture or crafts and not woodcutting, an assertive dwarf would be better at more of the administrative duties, etc.  It would most likely effect happiness levels as well.  The level of detail in the finished game will be insane!

[EDIT] And then the material preferences could have effect on creative jobs, as well.  A creative dwarf could be miserable as a cook if he likes to work with metals or wood.

Felix, Aluminium has been able to be smelted for hundreds of years. The problem has been one of economy and technology, rather than the ability to actually do it. As such, the price of aluminium hundreds of years ago was astronimical.

What is traumatizing me is that the counter went from 56 to just 54  :(. Time to push my release predictions all the way to october.

Anyway, those changes are extremely good. They are far-reaching and doesn't just affect nobles but all dwarves and, I suppose with a little tweaking, all characters in adventure mod. It would be nice seeing town-people, caravan and army dudes (including goblins) acting accordingly to their personalities.

I was wondering... since we can designate liquids to be poured into a large closed-off reservoirs, could there be some way to make a faucet object which lets dwarves to draw off from the liquid on the other side of a wall?  I supposed most people would use this to build large cisterns or something.  Personally, I would use it to fill a huge tank full of brandy for my dwarves to drink out of in the dining hall.  Keg stand!

I put in an "Attend Meeting" in place of "No Job" a long time ago at somebody's request, at least for the dwarf that initiated the meeting with noble/appointee.  The noble running the meeting doesn't currently have something written, but I can change that.  Dunno why I didn't in the first place.  Probably because they can do other things when somebody's trying to meet up with them.

Right now personality traits just do what I needed them to do, which is handle which conversation skills are used during meetings.  Later on they'll control which friendships/grudges are formed (right now they just make buddies with everybody they meet a certain number of times), how tantrums work, how they do their jobs, and whatever millions of other things makes sense.  All of it will be added over time, but not very much will go in this time around.  I was just irritated that every time somebody tried to calm somebody down or took/gave a work request, they became a dabbling liar.

The dwarves cannot currently refine aluminum from something like bauxite.  The only process I've heard about involves lots of electricity.  Native aluminum is very rare, but apparently you can find it in certain oxygen-low environments -- here's a very small amount from a mud volcano.  I dunno what the largest chunk ever found was, perhaps no larger than those specks, but that's the current state of affairs.

I think my kidney is fine.

Wikipedia says it -can- be smelted, but requires a temperature of around 2000 C (about 3632 F).  That means exactly 13600 in DF's temperature units.  Spirits of Fire have a fixed temperature of 25000 DF, more than enough to smelt the stuff...

Electricity, dwarves have not.  But with a little ingenuity, would filling a room with bauxite and luring a Spirit of Fire in there get some aluminum?
