In all of my diagrams anything like a "level 0" or below would still be skyed out.  Just trying to add another level to make it a little less abrupt.

Can you rewall over a door?

code:

###      ###
#.D      # #
###      ###
Level 1 Level 2

Also does expand/contract do what I think it does?

I think so Grek, but I don't know why you'd want to put elephants in tutus in the first place...

I think so Brain, but what do burlap sacks have to do with ice wolves crossing the chasm?

I'm up to 101F now, not outside, but inside.  Inside my body.  It was higher earlier.  Felt like someone opened an oven at my face.  August makes me sick!  It seems to be a completely new illness.  Hopefully the worst has passed.  I managed to get through my emails and forum reading, but I'm not sure I'll get any work done today.

I'm not 100% sure about falling objects, since they don't have an archer set.  I think this means there's no friendly fire restriction, and they'll damage and creature they land on, but I wouldn't commit to that.  Might try it before I release it.

Can't build walls over bridges right now -- bridges are kind of in a strange state now.  They were sort of a refloor before refloor, and they can be linked to levers, where floors can't.  At the same time, assuming you can build floors like we've been talking about, you should be able to build walls on those floors, though I'm not thinking clearly right now.  I think that works.

Re: period/commas, I was referring specifically to some post up there, though I didn't refer to it by name which seems like a problem when I respond here.  I think, yeah, we can probably get away with showing another level, and perhaps the gradated sky idea could give a bit more resolution.  We also discussed the lines and so on up there a bit a while ago...  I dunno.  Something.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

You can't rewall over a door.  You'll have to remove it first.  As noted above, it would be nice to do compound actions, multiple constructions at once and so on.  We'll just put things over time later.

I don't know if expand/contract does what you think it does.  It doesn't do what other people think you think it does.  It just lets you see all of the items, so that you can for instance place a specific statue.

Maybe this kind of effect would work?

The 1st floor (Z=-2) has a period every 5 spaces in the x direction.  Every time there is a point along the X axis, there is a point two spaces "north" and "south" along the Y axis.  Each line with points along the X axis would be staggered as shown.

With the same kind of staggered formation, the 2nd floor (Z=-1) will have a space in between every period.

The "current" Z-level (Z=0) will be displayed normally.

I apologize for the shitty quality of my diagram.  Hopefully you will be able to make sense of it.

I think that's ingenius, Dingle.  It'd probably be more difficult to implement, though, and you wouldn't be able to see what was directly below you.  Maybe that would only come into play when it's several tiles below you...  This would make some more sense.  So it would be...

code:

L-1 | L-2 | L-3 | L-4 |   L-5   |   L-7   |       L-8       |  L-9
`.,'.^=====^,,,,,^.....^.. .. .. ^ . . . . ^.   .   .   .   .^#######
'.,`'^=====^,,,,,^.....^. .. .. .^. . . . .^  .   .   .   .  ^#######
'.`,,^=====^,,,,,^.....^ .. .. ..^ . . . . ^.   .   .   .   .^#######
`.,`.^=====^,,,,,^.....^.. .. .. ^. . . . .^  .   .   .   .  ^#######

And so on, allowing several levels of stuff, where you can see at least the color of everything in three levels you aren't viewing, which is much better than only being able to see down one level...  Maybe if a creature is way down there, like on the seventh level on the example, it appears as a colored dot whether it's on the 'shown' tile or not.

Interesting to think about, though.  The only major problem, if it is implemented, is tiny holes in the ground far below you...  Though, that's easily played off as, 'you don't see it because it's further away'.

By the way...  What's a "p"?

I got two really crappy colds, complete with high fever in the past few months, so I know how that is. Being sick in the Summer feels really wrong.

Loved that mule drowning video.

 Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking, but I have no idea how complex it would be to implement.  Maybe it could be combined with the topographic contours in the "screenshot" from the last page?
