You work with Abandonia Reloaded? Awesome.

And to completely hijack the thread, during the times when I'm not playing Dwarf Fortress (blasphemous, I know, but it happen), I occasionally get bored.. Are there any games you'd recommend?

Even cooler would be to start on a one tile island. :P</STRONG>

I don't think you can build next to sea tiles.

Well, Xgamer, if you like Star Wars and are looking for some cheap games, the Jedi Knight series is quite fun. Many mods, too.

OK, back to topic, now.

"Compatibility mode", dude. If he tries running it under "capatability mode" some terrible thing involving elder gods will probably happen.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Sorry to ask but, in the next version which are gonna be the limitations to fortress placement?

Obviously you can't place a fort in the middle of the ocean or over a lava spewing volcano (is surface volcanic lava ridden terrain, not just underground magma, implemented for that matter?) But I'm wondering if I could start a fortress in the middle of a mountain range or over beach sand, swamps, etc.

Toady said "Any walkable tile".  There are only two kinds of unwalkable tiles, it seems.  Deep mountain (the REALLY tall peaks in the middle of a range) and ocean.

Everywhere else is walkable, including lava spewing volcanoes, mountain ranges (except the tallest peaks), beachs, swamps, etc.

Didn't he say that the placment needed to have ONE walkable tile of the 3x3 selection area?

I am a lowly MOD there.  :)

Well, you ought to drop by and browse by yourself... If you prefer old DOS games, head to Abandonia and search your prefered genre. If you like freewares such as DF, then hop to AR and do the same.  :D

Does rewalling create a pristine tile or a 'wall building'?

I'm glad you're taking this stance.  Setting an arbitrary release date means there'll be pressure to release when that date rolls around, regardless of how much is left to do, which has been the doom of many promising commercial games (anyone remember Battlefield 2142?).

Well, if you mean the Z axis, that wwill be a decent addition. The 3D view is basically just an additional feature, it has nothing to do with the gameplay.
Personally I am very excited about the new version, however on the other end I am kind of sad also. We still wont have any real military and diplomacy system, the game will be still like sim city without a real goal. Probably adding these systems [civilization realtions, wars, alliances, military action etc.] will take lot of months to implent.

Well, I think Toady said this rewrite is supposed to make it easier to add things in the future.

Yeah - I think this coming version will have the code for overland armies, allowing implementation of all sorts of neat stuff later on.  I'm sure adding armies entails more in-depth relations with other civilizations.

The glacier has melted!

The Stoic Lovecreases, a dwarven army, cancels invade: Dangerous terrain.

Well, you know what? If the graphics of the game themselves stick to 2D, I'll probably be happy with the end result. I'm one of those guys who think that some kind of games should never go 3D. Games like Xcom, Fallout, ADOM... etc.  :)

When we say 3D, we mean multiple floors, not NVidia GeForce GPUs.
