From the devlog:

The human town I started my adventurer in was attacked by lions. That'd be fine if it weren't so commonplace.

I don't understand... you mean that commonplace unscripted carnage is a bad thing?     :)

One thing I find annoying about this forum is that you can't immediately get to the most recent post in a thread; you have to manually navigate through the pages. Also, you can't see who the last poster to a thread was in the threads view, only in the forums view, which is kind of annoying. The other thing that's aggravating is the tiny tiny post text box. If those three things were fixed, everything would be fine :3

I hope that the lion issue etc. is being countered in a correspondingly unscripted fashion: simply by creating walls or fences or effective guards, or a proper fear of man among typical lions; and not simply with "invisible walls" or something.

I don't think Toady is the kind of programmer to use "invisible walls." More of the kind that will have humans forge picks, give them to their peasents, and force them to dig stone for walls outside the village.  ;)

I assumed with the development of outside villages etc, (see the county/dukedom extras), outside irrigation would be necessary, even before human/elf/goblin races became playable.

if in the future one can actively play a human/elf town under the sky what will they grow to feed themselves?  dwarven cave food will not grow outside and elves wouldn't eat it anyway.  will we see new types of growable food or develop the existing ones that grow naturally outside?  i would like to be able to build a fence to keep the livestock in, as well.  perhaps the animals would be more likely to breed if kept in one place, but maybe they would have to be fed/watered when kept in a pen.

hmm, my imagination is loose again, excuse me while i go and catch it....

I've been doing a lot of work in regards to the food and plant system (I have one mod for each! link). One thing I've noticed is that outdoor plants do not have a [GROWDUR:] tag. And, of course, in the current version of DF you can't create farm plots outside. I know that the eventual plan is to let players play as humans/goblins/elves and whatnot, do you have any plans in the works for starting agriculture with outdoor plants?

Is it actually impossible to farm outside, or is that just because dwarves are cave farmers? I know that when I modded in a custom race, I made them outdoor farmers, and I couldn't build farms indoors. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to test whether it was possible for them to build farms outdoors.

You're right that it is strange that outdoor plants don't have a [GROWDUR] tag. Perhaps Toady just didn't put one in because dwarves aren't supposed to be able to plant them? Although if it were possible, I wonder what would happen... Is there a default [GROWDUR] value, or would they just not grow at all?

In all the screenshots I see generally three levels.  I hope (expect) there are more?  How deep down can you dig?  Is there a hard-and-fast limit?

If DF is as realistic as it probably will be, you should be able to go at least 200 down, but after the first 10 or so, ground water slowly fills your tunnels(about to hight 1 in a month or so at -20?) this would not only be nicer, but would add a new challenge to the game.

Hmm.  Is the cave-in rule different?  7x7x7?  Can you excavate a 6x6x6 cubic empty space inside the mountain?

Yes.  There's something about it earlier in this thread, I think, but I don't blame you for not reading all 64 pages of it.

I think its been mentioned you will have the option of activting the z levels because of the drain on the proceesor to run alot so yeah 200 down when you get a p12 64.9 ghz 16846 Ram machine then you get 200 levels my friend.
