"I'm Casslan, currently working as a guard to the noble Bolan." Casslan coolly replied. "The village seemed oddly quiet and I was sent ahead to check whether something had happened. What exactly is going on?"

"Plague of madness!"

"Demons!"

"A merchant lives near our village and something has happened at his home. Servants started attacking each other violently. Two have escaped, one has perished outside and another after he managed to run here and deliver the news." The commander scoffed. "You should take your aristocrat and escort him away. This area is currently dangerous and I don't have time or men to ensure safety of your employer."

"I'm not the only guard, but I'll tell my employer. He's a collector interested in Sir Purplecloak's wares, so it might be tricky."

"...It wouldn't be Sir Purplecloak's home the one affected by disaster, would it?" Casslan felt like he knew the answer.

"His name is Albertus Corlann, but, yes, Sir Purplecloak is his other name. He deals in various old items and it seems this time he got his hands on something really weird and dangerous." The tall man thought for a moment.

"Actually, if your employer is Corlann's client, I demand you bring him over for questioning. I do not wish to imply anything, but I need information."

"He would need to talk to you sooner or later due to the situation. I'll be on my way to return with the rest of the party."

Casslan walked back to where he'd come from to explain the situation to the rest of the team.

"...so now the militia captain now wants to talk to the noble Bolan, collector." he finished, re-emphasizing their cover.

"Mm, I can do that."

Prince Aland led the group around the corner and between the villagers.

"Ah! Prince Aland!" The militia commander quickly dropped to his knee, apparently not fooled by the cover. The villagers around started to murmur.

"Prince Aland? One of the Hestian princes is here??"

"Did the King send him to help us?"

"It's a blessing from the goddess, for sure!"

"Uh, I, well... you may stand up."

"Prince, this place is dangerous. I can't ensure your safety, so if you're here to visit Albertus Corlann, I ask you to reconsider."

"Can you tell me what is happening in here?"

"A strange mess of sorts is occuring at Corlann's house. Servants started attacking each other, two managed to escape but they're already dead. We barely got news of the incident and I was about to take my soldiers and investigate. People are anxious and already believe its some sort of contagious madness or demonic possession."

"This is not a singular incident, sadly. For few days we've been trailing Sir Purplecloak, I mean, Mister Corlann because he was selling trinkets and alcohol that caused insanity and violence in his customers. I would assume that his own household fell victim to his wares." The militia commander rubbed his forehead.

"Right. So it's even worse than I thought."

"I cannot permit this to continue. I would like to offer assistance of me and my comrades." Prince Aland looked over his shoulder. "You might need extra hands to solve this mess, commander...?"

"I'm Epirus von Bodin. And I will welcome your help." Epirus turned towards the crowd. "Listen, people! Go back to your homes! Lock the doors and await our return! Everything will be alright, you hear me?" This time, the villagers, no doubt reassured by Aland's presence, began to disperse, hastily getting to safety of their homesteads.

"That's a shame," Ivy said dryly. "I was really getting into my role as ruthless mercenary cutthroat for Bolan the Collector." Perhaps Aland could borrow Casslan's mask next time?

Then Ivy crossed her arms, expression turning more serious.

"Isn't this just a little strange too? Priests, villagers, and children might not have meant anything to him, but he can't be in his right mind and think that hurting his own direct household benefits him."

"I'm Epirus von Bodin. And I will welcome your help."

"Hey, we got the same last name! That's pretty neat! I don't see that too often." Argos chimes in oblivious to any implications that may have.

"Isn't this just a little strange too? Priests, villagers, and children might not have meant anything to him, but he can't be in his right mind and think that hurting his own direct household benefits him."

"Maybe he cursed himself with one of his own objects by accident and the curse wants to spread itself or something? I don't know that probably a dumb idea..." The lad shrugs. He really can't put a finger on a motive so he just blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

Casslan was undisturbed about being caught lying since that was part of his duties anyway. What he found strange was the militia captain being able to recognize His Highness.

"I hope this isn't a distraction. Has the surviving escapee said anything about Corlann's location and situation?"

"He saw him being chased by some of the crazy servants deeper into the mansion. That's all I know."

"They could be dangerous if they have numbers... How many servants does Corlann have?"

"Approximately twenty, if what I've heard is correct. His house is rather modest estate, but he likes to 'live large'. He can afford such frivolty, after all."

"Have you been there? Are there any escape routes besides the front door?"

"I've visited him twice or thrice. I don't think I ever saw any other entrance besides the front doors, excepting of course if he were to break a window and escape this way. I know where his bedchamber is, so I can lead you there, but if there are any other hiding spots, they are beyond my knowledge."

"I see. We should be going. Perhaps some of his servants can be still saved..." Epirus nodded in response, and pointed at three of his soldiers in quick succession.

"Amon, Lolbert, Grey. You're coming with me. The rest of you, keep the villagers safe!" The soldiers saluted as their commander waved toward the road leading northwards.

"This way, Prince Aland, this way!" The prince followed the officer, turning to Alixia and Casslan as they went.

"Casslan, I doubt that the servants have much more than some pitchforks and kitchen knives, but you never know. You've the strongest armor, so please take front. Miss Alixia, the staff you were given by the Matron... I suppose it does not cure mental wounds?"

"I cannot say with certainty that the staff has such powers, Your Highness. However, I am willing to give it a try."
"I pray it won't be a repeat of the incident at the Temple of Our Lady of the Solemn Oath... or much worse than that..."

Chased? She might have actually agreed with Argos' curse idea otherwise, but this sounded like something different. While the prince made some tactical plans with the others, Ivy ran one of her gloved hands over her face in exasperation.

"... Oh, don't tell me that he might have done this all unsuspectingly."

"Never testing his own wares, leaving conveniently before anything happened each time... He'd have to be an absolute fool."

"I don't think he would stay in his business for over a decade if that was the case, miss." Epirus remarked, but rubbed his chin in consternation as well.

Few mintues later, the group cross the fields between the village and the manor. It was without a second floor, but there were scaffoldings and materials indicating Mr.Corlann was spending his wealth rather than hoarding it.

Screaming, shrieking, and sounds of toppling furniture came from the inside. And just as Prince's and Epirus' combined team arrived at the front door, it opened.

Four maids, each holding a knife, were blocking the way, their stares blank and their dresses and aprons stained with blood. One of the maidens had blood all around her face, but perhaps it is better not to think about that too much.

"My lord."
"My lord?"
"My lord..."
"My lord!"

"This is creepy."

"Ladies! Please, we're here to help you!"

"Prince Aland, I am not sure they're listening... or capable of listening at this point."

"..." The Prince looked at the kitchenmaids, all glaring at the intruders with murderouds intent in their eyes.

"I would like this to end like at the temple... but I fear we might have to use force in self-defense. There must be a source of this madness. Find and destroy it! If Corlann is still alive at this point, find and apprehend him as well!"
