I've been in DC the past few days looking at monuments to American Greatness so I've had some cynical sentiment to express. On the other hand a few things have really impressed me. Last year it was the Lincoln Memorial (not that the guy was perfect or even a hero, but...) and this year it was the mostly undeveloped, simple, monument to Teddy Roosevelt. I was particularly touched by a plinth of his thoughts on a Good State.
