+1 To the bolded things.

Maybe the box cars don't contain booze at all, maybe they contain something else.

Eighty cars of booze?

(Calculation, 1d6, 4)

It does seem like a lot of booze, but this is a big city.  Maybe something's up.. but you just don't know.

On with the plan it is!

Quote
Ignore the extra cars, start in the middle, set some sticks on each side.  Maybe get a few extras.

(Stealth, 2d6 + Speed, 11+0 vs Easy, 4.  Success)

Lying down in the grass, the two of you watch the train guards go past, slowly walking from the back to the front.  There's two guards, each with submachine guns.  They're not joking, holding their guns close to their bodies, looking back and forth.  Or maybe they're calm and patient, and it's just your nerves making you see what's not there.  Eventually, they make their way towards the front of the train and nearly out of sight of your position.  After a wordless exchange, the two of you run towards the train, carrying the dynamite, trying to stay low and out of sight.

(Stealth, 2d6 + Speed, 6+0 vs Easy, 4.  Success)

You reach the small mound of stones bearing the track bed, roughly in the middle of the huge block of train cars.  You weren't silent, but you were quiet enough, you hope, as you suppress your breathing, trying to avoid panting after the bent over sprint.  At this moment, you're grateful for your improved constitution.. and redirect your concentration back onto the job before the whispers begin anew.  You're moving left.

(Sabotage, 1d6 + Precision, 5+0 vs Trivial, 2.  Success)

You quickly place the sticks, one after the other, into the handy slots on the side of the cars.  One.. two.. three.. four..  when you get to four, you glance over at Dale, who seems to still be planting them himself.  Five.. six.. seven.. and eight, and you're done.  And you've finished in time, Dale's still over there.  Finished, you flee, not even looking back.

(Stealth, 2d6 + Speed, 10+0 vs Challenging, 6.  Success)

Running away is a bit harder, as your nerves are screaming at you.  Every moment you're expecting someone to shout, gunfire, a massive explosion.. wondering if someone's going to hit you with a bullet and you'll collapse to the ground, bleeding into the long grass.  Wondering if every step will be the last one you make.

But nobody shouts.  After a fast minute, you arrive back at your vantage point, Dale right beside you.  He slaps at you and you keep running, climbing the fence and scooting.

(Run run run, 1d6 + Speed, 6+0, 6)

When the explosions come, they're titanic, like the whole world blew up.

(Toughness, 1d6+2 vs Medium. 4+2, 6 vs 8.  Failure)

..and you're knocked to the ground, hard, as if by some massive hammer blow.  Fortunately, you seem to be uninjured, and you roll over and stagger to your feet, looking back towards the train yard, where the sky is on fire.  The explosion was absolutely massive, and as you listen, there are the booms of more, smaller explosions, steady bangs of random gunfire, and an immense glow of heat strung out over the horizon.  Dale, next to you seems just as shocked at the sight.  Whatever just happened, it was much bigger than you were expecting.  This is going to be serious.

What do you do first, right this moment?

Lets get further away because we might get seen and suspected or hit with some shrapnel.

"Dale, we have to move, now."

Might as well use influence.

Run More

(Speed, 1d6 5)

(Stealth, 2d6 + Speed, 10+0 vs Challenging, 6.  Success)

The two of you blaze your way away from the firestorm, away from the sound of explosions, bombs going off, random gunfire, you come to a horrifying conclusion.  That was a munitions train, not a train full of booze.

You run more.

No, it's too much to think about.  The two of you make it to the city, seeing dozens of vehicles going towards the depot.  There are a couple of fire engines, but most of them are full of soldiers, from the garrison.

After the trucks comes a column of tanks.  You see some officers jumping around, giving orders, moving people around.  They're going to search, and you have to get home.

..although, is home the right place?  Maybe you should try to get out of here, maybe you should try to hide somewhere else.. you're supposed to be home, but they're going to search for you.  You see indecision on Dale's face.. he doesn't know what to do either.  Maybe you should try to strike out for the wilderness?  Maybe you should pretend you know nothing?  Maybe you should do something else?

..Maybe you should get your family out too?

..You see Dale stop for a moment, rubbing his calves.  That run took a lot out of him.  Your own legs are burning with the stress of the run, but you can still move fine, unlike Dale.

What do you do next?  You haven't been spotted by the soldiers, but they're going to be searching.

Dale, you have contacts, of some kind.  Who told you about the train, got you the explosives.  Anyone who can hide us or might know a better next step?

Might as well inspire our companion to get some useful information.

"Dale, we gotta get to safety.  Who tipped you off about this?"

"Uhh", Dale says, nervous and scared.  "There was.. there was" he stammers, unable to properly continue, pressed up against a concrete wall.

Not good enough.  You close your eyes and concentrate.  For the first time since things started to go weird, you grab the thing inside you, and try to shake answers out of it.

A thought bubbles up.  What do you want to be to this person?  Who will he see grabbing him?
