How to kill a FB made of fire....
« on: June 21, 2021, 02:37:31 pm »

There is a gigantic blob composed of fire locked under my fortress. My dwarves obviously dug too deep. :P I've tried to kill it with my pretty decent military. They just stand around dodging his flames while everything around them burns. I had to pull them back for fear of death by smoke inhalation. Would have been a disappointing way for my entirely steel clad master soldiers.

Is there any way to kill it? It even boils away the water when it goes for a swim.

A good tip for flame spewers (although it sounds like it's too late) is to try to engage them somewhere with a non-flammable floor.

FBs made out of flame are flimsy and can be killed comparatively easily with missiles. They can also be killed by menacing spear traps powered by minecart repeaters, but they tend to destroy the mechanism and most of the glass spears I use in the process, so dwarf powered repeaters probably won't work (trap destroyed too quickly). Cave-ins work as well.
As you noted, melee doesn't work because dorfs refuse to get sufficiently close.

If you can engineer a trickle of water on the floor in the combat area dorfs can survive being set on fire.

Note that flame spewing FBs does not have to be made out of flame, and thus not be as flimsy as flame based ones. On the other hand non flame based ones won't be too hot to approach.
