Odelia chooses to take this first lunch period of her enrollment to observe the strategies and decks of the other players in her class. Especially the duels involving the duo who had been arguing across her desk in language class.

It's not like it's because she's scared of losing her first match here and isn't willing to take the risk with herself at a disadvantage on custom card number, she's just doing research I-idiot!

Name: Rulao Baohan
Deck Theme: Monsterous Crustaceans
Hairstyle: A short, messy pompadour sits upon his head, lacking any real attempt to style it. Some strands of hair fall in front of his grimacing face.
Gender: Male
Other Information: Rulao is a punk through and through. The thug's broad shoulders and lackadaisical attitude lead those fists of his to ever be stuffed in either pocket, a dangling chain on either side. That angular face and strong jaw do little to hide his constant faux rage, for it always seems he's got a bone to pick.

Rulao is a straightforward guy, and probably not the brightest crayon either, but there's still a level of cunning in those eyes. Even so, this delinquent is not above such devious acts as not following any school dress-code! He'll even go so far as skipping class! (Scandalous)

Some say they've seen a different side to the punk. . . Deep within behind that crusty exterior and thorny vibes, there's some kind of heart, and a passionate SOUL for children's card games.
Family Information: Rulao's father was supposedly an expert duelist, even going so far as to be engaged in the world championship. However, one fateful night, the man went out to purchase a gallon of milk. . . And never returned. Rulao resents his father, having never truly gotten to know the man, and for leaving his poor mother alone.

On that note, Rulao's mother is extremely doting and loving toward her little man. To the point of extreme embarrassment for the would be delinquent! However, Rulao would defend her honour with his life.

Welp, I hope that settles it. I'm looking forward to battling you all!

(Given Friendship Precure doesn't seem to work on Jade, that theory makes a bit of sense. It doesn't work on monsters either.)

Both were GM errors. If for some reason a card has no effect when it obviously should, it will be explicitly stated. If it is not, then it was a GM error and not a deliberate thing. (You don't need to worry about revisiting the fight with the first monster though)

(You fit that quote quite well G. I'm pretty sure you'd pick up a black card with no hesitation as your losses lead you onto a dark path. Then I'm going to have to Nanoha you and bring you back onto the path of friendship.)
